Dear Ward 7 Resident:
We are finally making it out of
the deep freeze and into spring. This
winter’s extreme cold and abundant
snowfall has definitely left its mark on
our community, but I can assure you
Cleveland is working hard to repair
potholes and clean up our streets and
lots.
Cleveland City Council recently
approved and passed the 2014
operating budget for the city. As a result
of conservative fiscal management and
an increase in revenue, Cleveland will
have a $43 million carryover from 2013,
in part from an increase in income tax,
a sign of more jobs and an improved
economic condition. This year’s budget
will aid the city in the hiring additional
police and fire fighters to replace those
who retired and to maintain current
workforce levels, purchasing service
vehicles (garbage trucks, snow plows,
etc.) to replace our aging fleet, and
Chief Williams is a Ward 7 resident and a 28 year veteran of
the Cleveland Division of Police. Throughout his stellar career,
Williams has been a member of and supervised in the SWAT Unit.
Chief Williams has also served as supervisor of both the Vice Unit
in the Fourth District and the Fugitive Unit. In 2005 he became
Cleveland Police Liaison to the U. S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force
and was promoted to Commander of the Third District in 2006.
In September of 2011, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of
Field Operations. Chief Williams is the Department’s 40th Chief
of Police.

And I hope you can join me and
your neighbors on April 5 for our
Annual Ward 7 Easter Egg Hunt
at Fatima Family Center. More
information on that great community
event is inside the newsletter. After
the winter we’ve had, I’m looking
forward to reconnecting with each of
you. By working together residents,
my office and the Hough Development
Corporation and St. Clair-Superior
Development Corporation will make
our community a better place to live
and work. And as always, feel free
to call my office at 216-664-2908
with your comments and questions.
We need your involvement to make
Ward 7 a better community for all of us.
Sincerely,
TJ Dow
Councilman, Ward 7

then assist them in accessing the services,
benefits and programs available to them.
Accompaniment to medical appointments
can be provided on an as needed basis.
Economic Security Project / 216-664-6130
Helps seniors improve their economic
situation by providing core services
including: assistance with public benefits,
housing, employment, emergency assistance,
financial counseling, legal assistance, health
and mental health services, supportive
services and kinship family support.
Senior Homeowner Assistance Program
(SHAP) / 216-664-2833
Provides a grant to low-income seniors
and adults with disabilities who own
and reside in one or two family unit
homes needing critical health or safety
repairs. Typical repairs include: roof/
gutter replacement, major electrical,
major plumbing, porch replacement and
installation of a ramp or lift.
Cleveland has a very easy recycling process called
“single stream” which means residents can put all accepted
recyclables in one container. When you put your recyclables
into plastic bags, the bags contaminate the entire recycling
stream and slow down the recycling process at the recycling
centers.
Recyclables should no longer be bagged; place the items
loose in blue recycling carts and City of Cleveland drop-off
dumpsters. While plastic bags are NO LONGER ACCEPTED in
these containers, most grocery stores and some other retailers
accept plastic bags for recycling. These stores should be
contacted in advance to confirm they will accept plastic bags
and other items.
