How to use Symphonix with The P7889 Acquisition board for fast acquisitions The P7889 hardware is controlled by a software server, and Symphonix has been modified to dialog with this server to control the acquisition board and retrieve data. Then to use Symphonix with this acquisition board, before running Symphonix, P7889 server must be started and properly configured, otherwise Symphonix will prompt for an error at start-up. To start P7889 server, double click on Windows desktop P7889 icon. Server starts and MCDWIN, fastcom software opens. To load the proper hardware configuration file, In MCDWIN click on "range preset" icon The P7889 settings windows is displayed In setup Name edit type inel . (Pay attention this is case sensitive). Next click on load Sett button follow by apply button. This will load and apply the proper settings to use the P7889 with an Inel CPS detector. From now, the acquisition board server is configured and MCDWIN may be closed Note : P7889 server must be always kept on running Using Symphonix Start Inelservers (desktop icon). Two others animated icons should be in the icons taskbar on the bottom right corner (on the Window desktop). Depending on the acquisition mode used with the P7889 board, 2 modules have been implemented in Symphonix. One is called acqpci64 standard for classical use of the acquisition board and another one, called AcqPci64 sequence to proceed to very fast cyclic acquisition runs. Acquisition mode selection To switch form one mode to another one, you have to open Inelserver. For this, double click on the animated Inelservers icon. Then the about servers window will popup. To do classical acquisitions, thus use acqpci64 standart mode, in COM-Acquisition mode selector Combobox must be on AcqPci64.AcqPci64Object To run acquisition sequences, acqpci64 sequence the same Combobox must be on AcqPci64Sequence.AcqPci64SequenceObject To check what is the current selected mode, set the mouse over (above) detector running icon, wait few second until the hint message appears. This message indicates the current acquisition mode used. Once the desired working mode has been selected, press the Close button to close this window. mode "acqpci64 standart" With this mode , acqcps.exe may be used. (launching the 'Acqcps” icon on desktop) mode "acqpci64 sequence" With this mode, only the "sequences" window must be used. To open it, click on "acqpci64 sequence" running detector icon. Select the desirable spectra number (number of different acquisitions in a cycle), cycles number (number of cycles to do), acquisition preset (acquisition time for one acquisition during one cycle) and then click on Start. A Window will popup to ask you to click on apply in the p7889 windows before click on the Ok button of this Window. The acquisition sequence is started. When finished, an end of Acqs message appears. To see the different diagrams, you can select the spectrum number to be displayed in the current showing spectra box. To save all diagrams in FDT format file click on save fdt button. The fdt filename appears under and may be changed using light blue button on the right. Known issues : AcqPci64 will raise the exception “catastrophic failure” if the Inelserver is started but not P7889 server. Launch P7889 and then restart AcqPci64.
