EWP’s Directors review all submissions. Our primary selection criterion is the presence of a compelling, coherently developed idea. We invite submissions of excellent quality that span the range of writing assignments from all our courses. If your essay reaches the semi-final round, you will be asked to submit an electronic copy in Word via email. If your essay is chosen, you may be asked to participate in an editing process by email. After final editorial approval, you will receive a $35 honorarium and two copies of Mercer Street. Mercer Street is a non-profit publication, and there are no royalties. EWP will also post winning essays on its department website the year after the book is published. Further print publications rights are returned to the authors. Publication decisions made by the Directors of the Expository Writing Program are final. To submit your essay, complete this application form and attach a clean hard copy of your essay to it. Make sure the essay copy follows these guidelines:  Does not contain your teacher’s comments or the essay grade.  Does not show your teacher’s name on the first page or in the header.  Includes page numbers.  Has a complete Works Cited section formatted in MLA style.  Has complete, appropriate in-text citations formatted in MLA style. Deliver your completed application form and essay to the EWP Reception Desk, 411 Lafayette, 4th floor (or Dibner Library Room 104 at NYU-Poly) by the due date (Fall: February 6, 2015 or Spring: May 22, 2015).
