Cornerstone* New Activation Key Instructions—Cornerstone Module Change Using Files on the Server to Reinstall the Software * The following instructions guide you through updating your IDEXX Cornerstone Practice Management System with your new activation key. Please be aware, these instructions are ONLY for activation keys that add OR remove a module(s). These instructions require a re-install of Cornerstone on the server and workstations, which requires Cornerstone to be down for the entire re-install. Document Purpose Note: New activation keys containing ONLY a seat/user change need different instructions. If at any time you have questions, please contact Cornerstone support at 1-800-695-2877 for assistance. Warning: IF YOUR PRACTICE HAS THE MOBILE COMPUTING MODULE, YOU MUST SYNCHRONIZE AND UNDO ALL MOBILE COMPUTERS BEFORE CONTINUING. Notes These instructions are written for practices on Cornerstone 7.6 or above who are using files on their server to reinstall Cornerstone. If you are using CDs and/or DVDs to reinstall, use alternate instructions found at www.idexx.com/cornerstoneresources, under the section titled Backup, Network, Hardware and OS documents. Step 1. Verify the installed version of Cornerstone From within Cornerstone: 1. From the menu bar, click Help > About IDEXX Cornerstone. 2. On the first or second line of the window, locate and make note (below) of the version number. It will read Cornerstone #.#.## or Cornerstone build #.#.##.##. Be sure to write down all numbers listed. Version Number:_________________ • If you are running a version prior to 7.6, you’ll need to use alternate instructions found at www.idexx.com/cornerstoneresources, under the section titled Backup, Network, Hardware and OS documents. • If you are running version 7.6 or higher, you can install from files located on the server. Step 2. Prepare 1. Run End of Day processing and perform your backup. 2. Close any programs that are open, including Cornerstone, on all computers. Leave all computers on, including the computer you use for capturing radiographs. 3. If you have in-clinic laboratory devices, do the following: • If your practice uses the IDEXX SmartLink* In-House Laboratory module with the IDEXX VetLab* Station, shut down the IDEXX VetLab Station. • If your practice has an IDEXX LaserCyte* Hematology Analyzer, IDEXX VetTest* * * Chemistry Analyzer, or Abaxis VetScan Analyzer that is connected directly to your Cornerstone system (not through an IDEXX VetLab Station), do the following on the computer that is your Cornerstone Lab workstation: a. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, select Task Manager or Start Task Manager, and click the Processes tab. b. Select Vsccom32.exe in the list, and then click the End Process button. A message will pop up to confirm that you want to do this. c. Click Yes or End Process. • If you have any other analyzer or diagnostic device that is connected directly to your Cornerstone system (not through an IDEXX VetLab Station), please call IDEXX Cornerstone Support at 1-800-695-2877 for further instructions. 4. To avoid altering your Cornerstone default image location, if your images are being stored in a location other than your server, that workstation must be logged into ® Windows until you complete the “Update the server database” instructions. 1 1. Close Cornerstone on the server and all workstations. 2. Close the database on the server: For Cornerstone versions prior to 8.3: Right-click the Cornerstone Database icon in the system tray the time and click Exit. You may need to click the show hidden icons button to see all icons. or Note: If there is no Cornerstone Database icon in the system tray: a. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE simultaneously on your keyboard, and then click Task Manager or Start Task Manager. b. Click the Processes tab, and select dbsrv7.exe. If dbsrv7.exe is not listed, this means the database is not running or you are not on the Cornerstone database server. c. Click End Process, and then click Yes or End Process in the dialog box that appears. For Cornerstone versions 8.3 and higher: a. Click Start > Programs OR All Programs > Cornerstone > Cornerstone Database Server. The IDEXX Database and Services window opens. b. Click Start All to start the database and all services. Once the database has started, continue with step 2. Step 3. Close Cornerstone on all computers and ensure the database is shut down 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Step 4. Install Cornerstone on the Server using files that are on your server next to 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. On the server, double-click Computer or My Computer. Navigate to Local Disc (C:) > Cstone > Share > Install. Right-click the Release folder and click Copy. Navigate to Local Disc (C:) > Windows > Temp. Right-click within the Temp folder and click Paste. Open the Release folder from the Temp folder and double-click setup.exe. On the Welcome window, click Next. On the License Agreement window, select the Accept option and click Next. On the Activation Key window, enter the new activation key and click Next. Note: The activation key needs to include the dashes (e.g., E75-EDN-E7DNN-FDY-YY). On the Setup window, do not change the server type selection (the correct server type is already selected). Click Next. When the message about backing up your database appears, click OK. When a message appears stating that the backup was completed successfully, click OK. On the Select Features window, verify that the module you are adding or removing is listed in the list of modules with a check mark. All modules included in the activation key are displayed with a check mark and the destination where Cornerstone will be installed. Click Next. On the Start Copying Files window, click Next. Once the install has finished a message will appear stating To complete the installation, the Cornerstone database must be updated. After rebooting this server, double-click the Cornerstone icon on the desktop and answer Yes to bring the database up to date, click OK. On the Install Shield Wizard Complete window, click the Yes, I want to restart my computer now option. Click Finish, the server will now re-start. If you are only reinstalling a full release version of the Cornerstone software, you have completed Step 4. Install Cornerstone on the Server using files that are on your server. Continue with Step 5. Update the Database. If you are upgrading to a service pack of the full release version you just installed, 2 install the most recently installed service pack at this time by doing the following: a. Depending on the type of server and configuration, the database may have started automatically after the server was re-started. Follow the instructions in Step 3. Close Cornerstone on all computers and ensure the database is shut down to ensure the database is shut down. b. On the server, double-click Computer or My Computer. c. Navigate to Local Disc (C:) > Cstone > Share > Install. d. Right-click the Service Pack folder and click Copy. e. Navigate to Local Disc (C:) > Windows > Temp. f. Right-click within the Temp folder and click Paste. g. Open the Service Pack folder from the Temp folder and double-click . The Welcome window should appear. setup.exe h. Follow steps 7-17 from above to complete the installation. 19. To avoid future confusion, when all upgrades are complete, delete the setup.exe file from the desktop of the server. Important: You must update the database immediately after reinstalling Cornerstone on the server, and before reinstalling Cornerstone on any of the thick-client workstations. 1. The database needs to be running before you begin the update process. Depending on the Cornerstone version and type of server, the database may start automatically, or you may need to start it manually. Cornerstone versions prior to 8.3, without a Terminal Services Server: The database starts automatically. Continue with step 2. Cornerstone versions prior to 8.3, with a Terminal Services Server: a. Click Start > Programs OR All Programs > Cornerstone > Cornerstone Database Server . b. The database will start automatically at this point. Step 5. Update the Database does not appear in the system tray: Note: If the Cornerstone Database icon a. Click Start > Run. b. Type c:\cstone\dbsrv7.exe cstone.db (there is a space between .exe and cstone.db). c. Click OK. The database starts and the database icon appears in the system tray. d. Once the database has started, continue to step 2. Cornerstone version 8.3, service packs 1–5: a. Click Start > Programs OR All Programs > Cornerstone > Cornerstone Database Server. The IDEXX Database and Services window opens. b. Click Start to start the database and all services. c. Once the database has started, continue to step 2. Cornerstone 8.3 NEXT and higher: The database starts automatically with all server types. Continue with step 2. 2. To update the Cornerstone Database, on the server, click Start > Run. 3. Type c:\cstone\csupdate.exe and click OK. 4. A message may appear stating If you have not already shut down your IDEXX VetLab* Station, please shut down your IDEXX VetLab Station before continuing. If there is a VetLab Station in the practice, make sure it has been shut down, then click OK. 5. On the Cornerstone Update window, click OK. 3 6. Additional prompts may appear during the database update asking if you want Cornerstone to automatically print the Itemized Audit Trail during end of day processing, and if you want to use Backup Verification Assistant. Read through the messages and make selections. Both options can be turned on or off at any time by support if needed. 7. Once the database update has completed, the OK button will no longer be grayed out and will be available to click. Before clicking OK, ensure the text in the white window states Database key validation successful under all the Checking database key entries. 8. After the message appears, click OK. Notes: • This process can take from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of your database, the version of Cornerstone from which you’re upgrading, the specifications of your server computer, and other factors. As long as no error message appears, and the computer does not completely lock up (if the mouse cursor still moves then * the computer is not locked) the update is still running, even though the Windows task manager may report Cornerstone is not responding. • If Database key validation successful is not listed, contact Cornerstone Support at 1-800-695-2877. 9. On the desktop of the server (main screen), click the Release folder to highlight it. Hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard. While holding down CTRL, click on the Service pack folder (if applicable). 10. Now that both folders are highlighted, right-click on one of the folders and select Cut. 11. Double-click Computer or My Computer. 12. Navigate to Local Disc (C:) > Cstone > Share > Install. Right-click within the Install folder and click Paste. Click Yes to overwrite the files. 13. Re-start the server and continue with your normal daily process on the server. At this time, you can use Cornerstone on any thin-client workstations in your practice without any further actions. All thick-client workstations still need to be reinstalled with the new Activation Key prior to using Cornerstone on them—see instructions below. 4 1. To install from the files located on the Server, click Start > Run. 2. Type \\server and click OK. Note: If the name of the Cornerstone server is not Server, you’ll need to change this to the server’s actual name (e.g., \\cstone-svr). 3. Navigate to Cstone Share > Install > Release. Double-click setup.exe Step 6. Install Cornerstone on the Thick-client Workstations Step 7. Verify the Activation Key has been updated on all workstations . The Welcome window should appear. 4. On the Welcome window, click Next. 5. On the License Agreement window, click the Accept option and click Next. 6. On the Activation Key window, type the new activation key and click Next. Note: The activation key needs to include the dashes (e.g., E75-EDN-E7DNNFDY-YY). 7. On the Setup window, Workstation should already be selected, click Next. 8. On the Select Features window, all modules included in the activation key will be displayed with a check mark and the destination where Cornerstone will be installed, click Next. 9. On the Start Copying Files window, click Next. 10. On the Install Shield Wizard Complete window, click the Yes, I want to restart my computer now option. Click Finish, the workstation will now re-start. 11. If you’re reinstalling both a full release and a service pack, be sure to reinstall the service pack first, and then reinstall the service pack. To install the service from the server, follow steps 1–10 above. The only exception is with step 3—rather than navigating to the Release folder, navigate to the Service Pack folder. 12. You are done and can now use Cornerstone on that workstation. 1. Open Cornerstone on all workstations and verify the activation key has been updated to the new activation key and that the practice ID is correct 2. From the menu bar, click Help > About IDEXX Cornerstone. The About IDEXX Cornerstone window appears. 3. Click More…. Ensure the activation key under Clinic information is the new activation key and that the practice ID is correct. If the key and ID are correct, you can continue using Cornerstone this computer. 4. Repeat this process on each workstation until all workstations have been checked. Note: If the Activation Key does not automatically update itself on a workstation, close Cornerstone, and repeat the instructions in Step 6. Install Cornerstone on the Thick-client Workstations.
