Each week we will discover the different types of comfort Christ comes to bring (revealed in Isaiah 40) and experience the resulting joy that can be lived out in the season of Advent. November 30 – The Peace of Christ (Isaiah 40:1-2): True peace comes only through Jesus Christ and the forgiveness that he brings. He ends warfare without and within. He is the Prince of Peace. December 7 - The Pardon of Christ (Isaiah 40:3-5): We prepare the way of the Lord through repentance, as the forgiveness we receive through Christ makes the rough places of our lives smooth. December 14 - The Presence of Christ (Isaiah 40:6-9): We remember that Christ is present with us now and that he will come again in glory on the Last Day. December 21 – The Power of Christ (Isaiah 40:10-11): God himself came to live among us and be our Savior, but his power was displayed in the weakness and humility of the manger and the cross. “Comfort, comfort now my people; tell of peace!” so says our God. Comfort those who sit in darkness, mourning under sorrow’s load. To God’s people now proclaim that God’s pardon waits for them! Tell them that their war is over; God will reign in peace forever. The two companies have announced a joint project “to make car parts out of ketchup by-products”, including the peels, stems, and seeds from the 2 million tons of tomatoes Heinz processes each year. The tomato byproducts will be processed into “small, dry pellets that can be used in manufacturing. The partnership is Ford's latest foray into food by-products, since the car maker previously partnered with Coca-Cola to acquire recycled plastics for use in seat cushions, seat backs, and door panels. In this instance, dried tomato skins, for example, can be made into wiring brackets and cup holders. Health Tip from the Wellness Committee By Lynne Schwaberow There are two kinds of cholesterol: HDL "healthy" cholesterol and LDL "lousy" cholesterol. There are FIVE lifestyle strategies for Lowering Cholesterol. 1. Lose weight. As little as 5-10 pounds can make a difference! 2. Eat heart-healthy = more whole grains, fruit, veggies, and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like fish, walnuts, and flax seed. High levels of LDL cholesterol can be lowered with oats, red wine, salmon, nuts, beans, tea, chocolate, spinach avocado, garlic, and olive oil. 3. Exercise 30 minutes every day. 4. Don’t smoke. 5. Have moderate use of alcohol. It has been linked to higher levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. cholesterol has increased tenfold in the past two decades, but they inhibit the body’s natural production of CoQ10 which is VITAL for cellular energy production especially in the heart. CoQ10 may also reduce statin-induced muscle pain and help protect against LDL (bad) cholesterol. In summary: Lower cholesterol naturally. If not possible, take CoQ10 if put on a statin. MILD depression can be brought on by both happy and sad events. Some people don’t realize they are depressed – they just feel “down” with no energy, no ambition, no interests. Some suffer enough to be suicidal. This is SEVERE depression, causing a person to lose interest in the outside world. Professional treatment is warranted. Depression is treatable. Thirty five team members and twenty-nine residents of Bledsoe County Correction Complex spent three Christfilled days together, singing, praying and praising God. One resident, who attended because of the good food and to give KAIROS a try, gave his heart to Jesus before the weekend was over. Team members gave short talks each day, providing the residents the tools they need to give direction to their lives and to adopt a Christ-like lifestyle while they are incarcerated and after they are released. The participants were “blown away” by the attention they received during the weekend. acted as Table Leader and Ann Sloan assisted in the kitchen.
