Gazette Fletcher Maynard Academy November 2014 Halloween Fun This past Friday the FMA community: the FMA, the FMA Community School, and Tutoring Plus came together to host a Halloween party for FMA students and families. The festivities began with a Variety Act presentation followed by an hour of activity stations including the ever popular Bouncy Castle, to face painting and mask making, to a Palm reading hosted by our very own oracle, principal Harris. Children and Families came attired in their Halloween dress and everybody had a fabulous time. None of these festivities would have been possible without the support and collaboration of many different members of the FMA community. School faculty and staff worked closely with parents, Community School and Tutoring Plus to plan the event. Additional school staff and parents joined to host the event. Every single person involved with the event went above and beyond requirements and expectations. All hands were on deck to create success! Collaboration and Community are core to our school Culture. The faculty and staff truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a Considerate village to be willing to step up and do what’s necessary, beyond requirements, and beyond expectations-whether it be to throw a Halloween party, or provide additional academic support for students. This is who we are. A Word from The Fletcher Maynard Academy GREEN Consultant Hello Fletcher-Maynard Academy friends and family! My name is Jen Hagen. I work for “e” inc. - the environmental learning and action center based in Boston, and I am excited to be joining the Fletcher-Maynard Academy this year as a Green Consultant. For 3 years, “e” inc. has worked in Boston Public Schools to provide a STEM residency program focused on science education and promoting student-led action activities to help make their schools more sustainable; that is to say, environmentally friendly places. The program includes an Energy Review lesson and action projects that will help Fletcher save electricity. I will also be providing support to students and staff that will deepen their excitement in saving energy by adding new sustainability projects and educational materials. Some of my goals for the year are to start a student Green Team, provide regular newsletter updates, organize intra-school competitions around saving energy, and working with the Fletcher-Maynard Parent Council to keep parents informed and perhaps get some of you involved! I am excited about this new school year and the opportunity to work with your students. By working together, we can all become Planet Protectors! Jen Hagen, “e” inc.
