Bringing Senator Kennedy’s Vision to Life
The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for
the United States Senate is dedicated
to:
• Educating the public about our
government through the history and
contributions of the U.S. Senate
• Invigorating public discourse
• Encouraging participatory democracy
• And inspiring the next generation of
citizens and leaders to engage in the
public square
The Mission
2014 Congress’ Job Approval Rating = 13%
Public knowledge and trust in government has
diminished while polarization in America continues to
increase significantly.
10% of high school seniors are proficient in U.S. History
Civic education has significantly declined over 50 years.
2012, U.S. Presidential Elections voter turn out < 60%
The country and new generations of Americans have
become increasingly disengaged from the democratic
process that makes our country work.
