KURVE Wustrow – Centre for Training and Networking in Nonviolent

The Centre for Training and Networking in Nonviolent Action – KURVE Wustrow was
founded in 1980 with the aim of turning concerns about violent conflict, environmental
degradation and social injustice into conscious nonviolent action.
KURVE Wustrow conducts trainings, workshops and events in the field of civil, nonviolent
conflict transformation at home and abroad. We send young volunteers as part of the
“weltwärts”-programme as well as International Peace Workers as part of the “Civil Peace
Service” to selected crisis regions. For this purpose, KURVE Wustrow is closely cooperating
with partner organisations in the Balkans, in the Middle East and in South Asia. Further focal
points of our work include our commitment to climate and resource protection and against
nuclear energy.
For our CPS-project
“Peer Mediation at Schools”
we are looking for an
Evaluator for the Final Evaluation of the Project
Timeframe: Around 12 days in the Westbank, Palestine, from second half of September
2014
1. Background information
The cooperation project between the General Union of Palestinian Teachers (GUPT) and
KURVE Wustrow– initiated within the framework of the Civil Peace Service/CPS (Ziviler
Friedensdienst/ZFD) – aims at setting up a peer mediation programme in public schools in
the Westbank. The project is operating since 2009. Training activities have been
implemented since July 2009. The project team consists of two coordinators based in the
Ramallah office (one Palestinian, one German (Friedensfachkraft/FFK)).
2. Purpose of the evaluation
Main purpose of this evaluation is to assess the external input to the project “Peer Mediation
at schools” and to measure the relevance of it in respect to the success of the project.
Furthermore, it aims at uncovering the facts that contributed to the anchoring to the local
structures of the formal education system. Here, the peculiar role that KURVE Wustrow as a
partner organisation played is taking into special consideration.
As this evaluation serves as a final review, it is meant to provide
 An independent assessment of the major achievements the project reached in its
time of implementation
 An assessment of the relevance of an external input by the programme CPS to
the success of the project, how KURVE Wustrow’s set-up contributed and the
particular role that KURVE Wustrow played
 Lessons learnt in a form to be used as a future publication.
3. Intended Use(s) and User(s)
This evaluation is meant primarily as an assessment of external influence to the work on
peer mediation in Palestine, the use of the tool “Civil Peace Service” (CPS) as well as
KURVE Wustrow as an implementing organisation. Its use will be both of internal importance
for KURVE Wustrow, the GUPT, and the Ministry of Education as well as external
importance as the best practices and lessons learned are meant to be eligible and of
relevance to publish for expert audience.
