BOARD REPORT

Meetings held March 24, 2014 and April 14, 2014

Workshop held March 24, 2014
Dr. Lori Blaylock (TEA #13-015) led the Board in Board Development, Tier 3 training.
The Board received two handouts, “Developing the Board Meeting Agenda” and “The
Role of the Board of Education” for consideration at a later board meeting.
Dr. Blaylock reported she had accepted three resignations/retirements – Karelius Paul,
KHS; Lauren Dunlap, MPS; and Kenny Campbell, KHS.
The Board reviewed Board policy EIF (Local) Academic Achievement: Graduation. The
Board will take action on the policy revision at the April 14, 2014 meeting.

LIONS’ ROAR
Dr. Lori Blaylock recognized Principal Jeremy Melton and members of the O. P. Norman
Jr. High School Chess Club.
OPEN FORUM
No one asked to speak in Open Forum.
REPORTS
The Board reviewed the Tax Report for February 2014. Brian Carter had also
prepared the 2013 Annual Investment Report and Resolution and the Quarterly
Investment Report for the period ending February 28, 2014.
The Board reviewed the Principals’ Reports. President Gregg thanked the principals for
writing the reports each month.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Blaylock introduced:

Mr. Gary Rademacher with Huckabee, who presented an update on the district’s
Facility Assessment, Renovations and future Bond Program.

Ms. Jenny Eyer and Ms. Lana Crouch, who presented information on the
Children at Risk – Free School Breakfast Program.
Dr. Blaylock then reported:

Resignations/ Retirements – Jim Burk, PES; Lisa Prewitt, PES; Stephanie
Chase, NIS; Pam Rogers, PES

Enrollment – As of Friday, April 4, 2014 the KISD enrollment was 3,799 students,
an increase of 26 students from this time last year.


AIA CONTRACT WITH HUCKABEE
The Board voted to approve the AIA Contract for 2014 Facility Assessment,
Renovations and Bond Program with Huckabee & Associates, Inc.
COMMUNITY SURVEY CONSULTANT
The Board voted to hire Baselice & Associates, Inc. to conduct a community survey on
a proposed bond program.
CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS
The Board voted to approve all items on the consent agenda:






Minutes of the regular meeting held March 6, 2014.
Minutes of the special workshop meeting held March 24, 2014.
Disbursements for March 2014.
Check registries for all vendors and Head Start/Walmart for March 2014
Annual KISD Investment Report for 2013 and Resolution.
Quarterly Investment Report for period ending February 28, 2014.
PERSONNEL
The Board voted to renew contracts for all professional personnel for the 2014-2015
school year.
The Board voted to approve the creation of two additional positions at Kaufman High
School, one in the ag department and one in the art department.
The Board voted to extend a contract to Dr. Dan Crawford as Principal of Kaufman High
School.
FOOD SERVICE CONTRACT
The Board voted to renew the contract with Chartwells to manage the district’s food
service department for the 2014-2015 school year.
BILINGUAL SUMMER SCHOOL
The Board voted to approve the 2014 Bilingual Summer School.
BOARD POLICY EIF (LOCAL)
The Board voted to approve the revisions to KISD Board Policy EIF (Local) Academic
Achievement: Graduations. (District policies are available for review on the district’s
website, on Policy on Line, and in the KISD Administration Building.)
The next meeting of the KISD Board of Trustees will be Thursday, May 15, 2014 with the open session
starting at 6:00 p.m.
