elcome to worship! What a glorious day to
gather together as a church family and exalt
the name of Jesus, our Savior, Redeemer, and King!
He is our Hope of Glory, the Lord of Lords, the King
of Kings, and the Bright and Morning Star. He is our
Mediator, our Messiah, our Great Physician, our
Master, and our Rock. He is True. He is Good. He is
Just. He is Love. He is Alpha and Omega, The Amen,
The Author and Perfecter of our Faith. He is the Bread
of Life, Ancient of Days, and the Anointed One. He
is the Lamb of God who was slain for the sins of
the world. His bride, the Church, gathers today to
worship Him!
This past week our Women’s Ministry launched
The Well. It is a summer Bible study led by Beth
Reed. Tuesday night, our Women’s Ministry hosted
265 women who participated in this study. Please
join me in praying that the Holy Spirit will speak
with great authority and love through Beth, and
that there would be life changing results in the lives
of these women as they experience The Well. Even
if you were unable to participate last Tuesday, it is
not too late to join.
This past week our Ministerial Staff spent two full
days in a planning retreat. As always, our hearts
were challenged and encouraged by the ministry
that lies before us. Please pray for all of our staff
that as we seek to walk obediently the path God
is putting before us and that we will do it in love
and in the power of the Holy Spirit. God desires to
release such a powerful, Kingdom-advancing work
through GBC. As our staff leads, I pray that our
entire church family will experience a fresh and
renewing touch of the Holy Spirit and enter into
the joyful work that God is calling us to embrace.
Please welcome Jackie Hudspeth to our
GBC family.

VBS Praise
GBC REACH will not meet tonight so that our church
family can participate in Church at Home. The R Team
will serve next Sunday evening.
Praise God for another wonderful Vacation Bible
School at GBC! Thank you to everyone who
contributed to the Special Ops Academy at Agency
D3. Over 500 cadets discovered evidence about Jesus
the Son of God, and they also collected over $2,000
that will purchase 3,000 Jesus Films to be shown to
people groups throughout the world. Please be in
prayer as we follow up on decisions that were made
for Christ, and seek to form relationships with families
who need a church home.
If you would like to assist in this vital outreach
ministry or learn more about it, contact Linda Irwin at
901.260.5703 or [email protected].
Church at Home
This summer we are setting aside two Sunday nights
for Church at Home. Instead of meeting on campus,
GBC members are encouraged to open their homes to
their neighbors for a time of fellowship and devotion.
Our first Church at Home event is scheduled
for tonight. Please make plans to participate.
This is a great opportunity to connect with your
immediate community and reach out to those who
may be unchurched. If you are planning to host an
event at your home, please let us know! Contact
Jhoni Copeland at 901.260.5705.
Committee Nominations
GBC Committees are an integral part of GBC 2016, and
it is time to begin the process of replacing committee
members whose terms will expire in 2014. GBC
members are encouraged to participate by nominating
men and women to fill these vital roles in our church.
To nominate a church member for a committee, please
complete a nomination form. Nomination forms are
available in the Main Lobby and in the church office.
Completed forms may be turned in to any member of
the Nominating Committee or Tom Elkins. Today is the
deadline for all nomination submissions.

One of the highest honors as a member of
Germantown Baptist Church is the opportunity to
participate in the deacon nomination process. These
men will join with our current deacons to be your
servant leaders for the coming three years and will be
involved in many aspects of church life to support you
as fellow members.
The instructions are very simple. Pray that God will
reveal to you the men you are to nominate. Review
the attached list and find those men’s names. Write
those names on the attached ballot and sign the
ballot. Return the ballot to the church office or to
one of our three officers: Jimmy Dunn, Bart Dahmer
or Jeremy Pringle. Please note that the nomination
process concludes on June 29, 2014, so do not delay
in completing the process.
For more information on these and other events,
visit www.germantownbaptist.org.
What type of ministry produces visible, tangible
rewards? Fitness ministry! With a goal of ministering
to body, soul and spirit, the Recreation Ministry invites
you to join the fitness team. We are looking for several
volunteer fitness instructors, and we are eager to train
you. For more information, contact Sharonda Vaughn at
[email protected].
Anger Management aka Men’s Golf Outing
Gentlemen, if you have anger management issues, we
have just the cure for you. The golf course is calling,
and it won’t be the same without you! Meet us at Quail
Ridge Golf Course on Thursday, June 26. Tee time is
9:00 a.m. The $35 fee includes a round of golf, lunch
and door prizes. Laughing with (or at) your foursome
is free, and we all know that throwing your clubs in
the lake isn’t an effective anger management tool. For
more information contact Don Ellis (901.210.5900),
Wayne Richie (901.569.6244), or Chuck Singletary
(901.603.2636).

IN FOCUS THIS WEEK
“Will you teach me to be a Godly man?” And such was the heart cry of a
bereaved father. Last fall, 16 year old Dennis Price Jr. went to sleep in his
bed at home and never woke up. His family, teammates and community were
devastated. D.J. was a basketball player at Ridgeway High School whose team
is shepherded by MANRISE ministries. Volunteers from MANRISE, led by Ed
Mrok, reached out to the grieving family and arranged for funeral services to
be hosted at GBC. Ed and a few other GBC men honored, respected and loved
a heartbroken father. The power of that love ignited a desire within Dennis
Price; and he asked Ed Mrok to teach and mentor him in the ways of the Lord.
Out of tragedy, a family was transformed.
MANRISE is committed to transformation. The ministry concentrates on inner
city athletes. They devote themselves to mentoring young men and women
by encouraging morality, good character and responsibility through Biblical
principles. On any given week, it is common to see 20 or more GBC members
serving at one of the four partner schools (Kirby, Melrose, Ridgeway and
Wooddale.) According to Ed, the most crucial qualification for entering into
this type of ministry is availability. GBC is hosting several upcoming MANRISE
events including cheer camp for high school girls and football camp for high
school boys. If you would like to explore different ways to be involved with
MANRISE, email Ed at [email protected]. Feel free to visit the website
at www.manriseministries.com.
The Student Ministry is seeking adults to invest
in the lives of students this fall. We are looking
for Sunday School Leaders who are called to
minister to our students. Email Drew Herndon at
[email protected] today if you
are interested in serving our students.
MOBILIZE
Flower Ministry
Have you ever wondered what happens to the beautiful
floral arrangements after Sunday worship? Each Sunday
afternoon, volunteers fashion them into smaller
arrangements to be delivered to members who are
homebound, in nursing homes or in hospitals. If you
enjoy working with flowers, we could use your hands
from time to time to help prepare these meaningful
gifts. For more information, please contact the GBC
Mobilization office at 901.260.5712.
For more information on these and other events,

DEACON OF THE WEEK:
BOB BUCKMASTER
Bob and his wife, Linda have been
members of GBC for 20 years. They have
two daughters, Hannah and Allie. Bob is
a graduate of The University of Tennessee
and is a sports fan of his UT Vols! He enjoys
spending time with his family at the lake
in his leisure time. He also takes interest in
cars and racing. As a member of the Bearden Sunday School
class, he leads their outreach. He uses his spiritual gift of
service in different areas of the church. One of his favorite
Bible verses is I Corinthians 10:31—Whether, then, you eat
or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
