Installing Gio 5
Several VXL Instruments thin client models come pre-installed with the Gio 5 operating
system. If you want to install the Gio 5 operating system on a supported thin client, follow the
instructions provided in this Installation Guide.
Prerequisites

An USB flash/pen drive with a capacity of 2 GB or above.

Windows7 or Windows7 2008R2 PC/Client (for USB flash/pen drive preparation).

Thin Client

A Gio 5 installation .ISO file.

Gio imaging Tool (Executable on Windows7 or Windows7 2008R2 PC/Client).

Configuring an USB Flash Drive as a Gio 5 Bootable Device
To configure an USB flash / pen drive as a Gio 5 Bootable Device, as a prerequisite log into
a system with administrative privilege and run the Gio Imaging Tool (GIO IT.exe). The
Installation Wizard appears.
Browse and locate the destination folder click Next.

Once the installation is complete the Gio IT shortcut appears on the desktop.
To configure an USB key as a Gio 5 Bootable Device:
1. Double-click the Gio IT shortcut, The Gio Imaging Tool window appears.

In the File field browse and select the image file (.iso).
3. Select the flash drive to be configured as a Gio 5 bootable device.

Note: The Type field value populates automatically based on the ISO file selected.
4. Click Create Disk. The following warning appears.
5. Click Yes. The flash drive is formatted.
The disk creation process starts.
6. Once the process is complete, remove the USB key and close the Gio IT tool.

The USB flash drive is configured as a Gio 5 bootable device.
Note:

Do not remove the USB flash drive during the process.

The background process will exist on forcible exit.

The maximum time taken to configure an USB flash drive as a bootable device is 5
minutes.
Installation
To install Gio 5 on your thin client from your Gio 5 bootable USB flash drive:
1. Insert the USB flash drive which has the Gio 5 installation pack in the USB port of your
thin client.
2. Switch on the thin client.
3. Press the Delete key immediately after the thin client starts. The Enter CURRENT
password screen appears.
4. Enter drupad.

Note: You only have a few seconds to press the Delete key to access the BIOS.
You will not be able to access the BIOS after the operating system starts
loading.
5. Select boot using your arrow keys, press Enter.
6. Under Boot Settings, select Hard Disk Drives.
7. Set your USB flash drive as the 1st Drive.
8. Press the Esc Key.
9. Under Boot, select Boot Device Priority.

10. Set your USB flash drive as the 1 Drive.
11. Press the F10 key. The save configuration dialog box appears.
12. Click OK. Your thin client will restart.

13. Select VXL GIO 5 installer. Press Enter. Press Tab to edit options.
The language and preference screen appears.
14. From the Language option drop-down list, select a system language.
15. From the Time Zone drop-down list, select your time zone.
16. From the Keyboard Type drop-down list, select your preferred input keyboard type.
17. Click Install.
The Gio 5 installation Welcome screen appears. The installation progress bar
indicates the progress of the Gio 5 installation.
18. Once the installation is complete, remove the USB Flash Drive and press Enter.

Once the thin client is restarted, the Gio 5 operating system welcome screen
appears.
