The Lorain Board of Education, Lorain City School District, Lorain County, Ohio, met in special
session on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 6:31 p.m. in Room 10 of the Charleston Administration
Center, 2350 Pole Avenue, Lorain, with the following members present:
Tony Dimacchia
Mitchell Fallis
James Smith
Bill Sturgill
Timothy Williams
President Timothy Williams presiding.
The first order of business was the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dr. David Hall introduced Dyandre Mercado to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Dyandre is a 6 th grade
honor student at Frank Jacinto Elementary School and is the son of Tiffany Centeno and Luis Sanabria.
He has 3 brothers, Gregory, Angel and Devonte and 1 sister, Aneshialle. After the Pledge, Dyandre
spoke on Hispanic Heritage month. Ms. Leila Flores, principal, was also present to support her student.
DO THE RIGHT THING PROGRAM
Mr. Jeff Hawks introduced David Ford, a student at Admiral Ernest J. King Elementary School. David
was honored by Officer Jason Orellano, of the Lorain Police Department, and the Lorain City Schools
for his role in restoring the food pantry that was destroyed on August 28, 2014 by the fire that also
destroyed the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. With the help of his grandmother, Lillie Taylor,
David led a canned food drive to help the Church replace what was lost in the fire.

Matters:
ITEM 6.
Consider approval of a contract with Lorain County Workforce Development
Agency to provide work-related activities for eligible students in the Youth
EDGE program for the 2014-15 school year:
It is recommended that approval be granted to enter into a contract with Lorain County
Workforce Development Agency to provide work-related activities for eligible students in the Youth
EDGE program for the 2014-15 school year. This is at no cost to the district.
ITEM 7.
Consider approval of a contract with Silver Strong & Associates for services
delivered during the 2014-15 school year:
It is recommended that approval be granted to enter into a contract with Silver Strong &
Associates to provide professional development and support to Lorain High School staff on designing
the master schedule to meet student needs during the 2014-15 school year. This is a General Fund
expenditure not to exceed $46,000.

ITEM 8.
Consider approval of Adoption of National School Lunch Week resolution:
MOTION was made by Mr. Dimacchia and seconded by Mr. Sturgill that the following
resolution be approved for adoption.
WHEREAS, the primary goal of Child Nutrition Programs is to safeguard the health and
well-being of the children and youth of this nation. These programs are intended to provide
nutritional and attractively prepared food at the lowest possible costs; and
WHEREAS, the Child Nutrition Programs are designed to serve as learning laboratories: for the
development of good life-long food consumption habits; and for the improvement and maintenance of
health and nutrition education for school children – through nutritionally adequate and educationally
sound non-profit programs; and
WHEREAS, it has been indicated by the United States Department of Agriculture that those
who participate in school breakfast and lunch programs are more likely to meet the daily nutritional

WHEREAS, there is documented evidence that well-fed students have shown improvements
in academic performance, absenteeism, tardiness, and disciplinary problems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lorain City School District Board of
Education does hereby proclaim the week of October 13 – 17, 2014 as National School Lunch Week
and encourages all staff, students, and residents to become aware and concerned about their own
nutrition habits and those of children, in hope of achieving a more healthful citizenry for today and
the future.

COMMITTEE REPORTS AND REQUESTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS
Mr. Smith recommended that the Board consider passing a resolution at the October 20, 2014
scheduled meeting strongly encouraging the Lorain County Treasurer to develop a more aggressive
policy on collecting the overdue taxes due the Lorain City School District.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEXT BOARD MEETING
The next scheduled meeting of the Lorain Board of Education will be held on Monday, October
20, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 10 at the Charleston Administration Center, 2350 Pole Avenue, Lorain.
