FSC Harmonized Certification Bodies’ Forest Stewardship Standard for the Republic of
Indonesia
Dear certification bodies, network partners and standards development groups,
In July 2013, the FSC policy and standards unit (PSU) announced the publication of the Harmonized
Certification Bodies’ Forest Management Standard for the Republic of Indonesia.
Following this announcement, Indonesian stakeholders identified some improvements that still needed
to be made. These improvements were as follows:




consistent use of the term ‘Forest Management Enterprise’
clearer indication of which indicators are applicable to small and low intensity managed forests
(SLIMF)
consistent use of the terms ‘shall’ and ‘should’ where appropriate
elimination of repeated indicators.
The standard announced in July 2013 had the version number FSC-STD-IDN-01-2013, Indonesia
Natural, Plantations and SLIMF EN Harmonized. The changes above have been incorporated to the
standard, which PSU has assigned a new version number: FSC-STD-IDN-01-01-2013, Indonesia
Natural, Plantations and SLIMF EN Harmonized.
As the standard has been effective since July 2013, and considering that the modifications made have
not changed its requirements, we have set the effective date of the amended version as 1 June 2014.
The intervening period is in place for certification bodies to adapt their systems to any changes in the
amended version. Certification bodies are required to immediately inform all their clients in Indonesia
that they shall be assessed against the amended version of the standard from 1 June 2014.
Clients may opt to be audited against the standard immediately, but all audits shall be against the new
standard from 1 June 2014.
As the requirements of the standard have not changed, the usual transfer period of one year given to
existing clients does not apply for this amended version.
