Reach for the Stars: Investing In Our Youth
– the Eighth Annual Scholarship Extravaganza - honoring hosts Steve
and Hilda Goodman, was held at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel
on February 22, 2014. The event sparkled with a sumptuous dinner,
outstanding auction and Big Board, and toe-tapping entertainment
from Radio London.
Watch for detailed coverage, photos and a net fundraising report coming soon! Visit the 2014 Scholarship Extravaganza web site at www.scholarshipextravaganza.com.
THANK YOU…to our generous sponsors who made the event possible
(see page 16).
Tax Season Is Referral
Service Season
What is the potential client base of the Houston CPA
Society CPA Referral Service? Everyone in the Greater
Houston area who picks up the Yellow Pages and turns to
"Accountants" or looks online at www.HoustonCPA.org.
Just imagine what this Society public service could do for
your practice. Through the online Referral Service
Request Form, prospective clients receive referral information immediately. A list of firms with contact information matching the user defined criteria (area of expertise
and/or foreign language search) is returned in zip code
order so the user can identify a conveniently located CPA.
With the costs of doing business increasing across the
board, the Society is bucking the trend. By joining now,
your firm will be entitled to an entire year's membership
for only $100.00 – just in time for tax season. Think
about it…fees generated by that one special new client
more than covers your yearly fee.
If your firm is interested in joining the CPA Referral
Service for calendar year 2014, please contact Carla
Sanders at the Society office (713.622.7733 x310;
[email protected]) to receive a detailed application and registration form. All firms that participated in
2013 should have already received an invoice. Join
today to take advantage of the busy tax season!
NOTE: Members of the Referral Service must be a TSBPA
licensed firm practicing full-time.
Are You Looking for
the CCH Master Tax
Guides?

2014 edition directly from CCH at a 25% discount.

U of H VITA Site
presented by
Since 1998, the Houston CPA Society has sponsored and staffed a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance) site at the University of Houston's Main Campus. There, CPAs and accounting student
volunteers provide free tax return preparation assistance to foreign students. For the 2013 tax season,
over 225 returns were prepared for nonresident students.
More volunteers are needed in 2014! $30 CPE vouchers, which can be used to register for any
Houston TSCPA Foundation sponsored CPE program, will be given again this year to those who
volunteer at the University of Houston site.
