These extracts are able to slow down cell proliferation to maintain younger and healthier skin and provide the means for better skin protection as well as prevention of hyper proliferative cell disorders. Colorless carotenoids, phytoene and phytofluene, are natural carotenoids produced and extracted from carotenogenic algae and tomato. The Hayflick theory postulates that normal human cells have a finite capacity to replicate.This theory has recently gained support from the finding that cell division shortens the telomeres, which in effect serves as a molecular clock and limits the cell’s capacity to replicate. Therefore, slowing down cell proliferation appears to be the proper solution for anti-aging applications. The products of the range colorless carotenoids have a number of unique characteristics: anti oxidation capability against hydroxyl radicals, light absorption at UVA and UVB range, anti inflammatory activity, inhibition of collagenase formation, skin whitening and brightening.
