Your username and password are allocated before you arrive for use across all IT services at Imperial, from your Student e-Service to your email and WiFi. If you have forgotten your College username or password, go to https://www.imperial.ac.uk/ict/passwords “changing password” Getting connected Your Imperial College email account can be accessed via any PC in College or via a web browser at: www.imperial.ac.uk/office365 for new undergraduates You can add your email account to your smart phone or tablet. Your mailbox quota is 50GB (UG) Other email client configurations are on the ICT website http://www.imperial.ac.uk/ict/email “email configuration” Getting connected In your halls of residence Most halls have WiFi access. You can connect your laptop or PC via a network cable. Cables are available from the Service Desk or any high street computer shop. When you open your web browser you need to register to activate your internet connection. You can request a temporary guest account for visitors, using the Guest Access system, here https://guestaccess.imperial.ac.uk/GuestLogin/default.aspx Most halls have telephones. Calls to College numbers are free. Outgoing external calls will be charged. So all students can use One Drive to store up to 1TB of data files. • For personal PCs you can use a Microsoft provided client to synchronise the data between the cloud and your local storage (if using MS Windows OS). (N.B. This facility is NOT provided in clusters. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2903984 • In public clusters – use the web client to access files on your “One Drive” Printing Printing is managed centrally through ICTprintservice all around the College • • • • • ICTprintservice uses ‘Pull Printing’ – (held on server) Swipe card access for printing Costs set by each department You may be allocated print credits (money) for your course Top up online (more than £5) or at money loaders (less than £5) in Central Library http://www.imperial.ac.uk/ict/printservice “print service” Software deals A range of free and discounted software is available, including AntiVirus software. Go to the Student Software Web page. • Dreamspark – Free Microsoft development tools • http://imperial.onthehub.c om • Remember, there’s always free software, e.g. Linux NEWSFLASH! Students can install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more on up to five PCs and Macs, plus five tablets, including iPad. All work can be saved online in OneDrive and accessed from any device.
