About ICT
Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) works to keep
College connected, support education and research goals, and enhance
the student experience.
As well as delivering initiatives to support innovation and develop IT
capability, we look after the IT systems and services that keep College
running.

Getting connected
ICT sets up user accounts for staff and students and guests, providing
authorised access to College’s IT.
Your username and password are allocated before you arrive for use
across all IT services at Imperial, from your Student e-Service to your
email and WiFi.

Getting connected
Your Imperial College email account can be accessed via any PC in
College or via a web browser at:
 www.imperial.ac.uk/office365 for new undergraduates
You can add your email account to your smart phone or tablet.
Your mailbox quota is 50GB (UG)

Getting connected
In your halls of residence
Most halls have WiFi access. You can connect your laptop or PC via a
network cable. Cables are available from the Service Desk or any high
street computer shop. When you open your web browser you need to
register to activate your internet connection.
You can request a temporary guest account for visitors, using the Guest
Access system, here

Most halls have telephones. Calls to College numbers are free. Outgoing
external calls will be charged. You can make and pay for calls using a prepay system, find out more here

Imperial Mobile is a mobile application enabling students to access College

There are around 3,000 PCs across College (Library, teaching rooms) for
students to use

Saving your work: Home ‘H’ Drive
Secure personal storage space on College’s server is allocated to
every student.

Saving your work: One Drive
Within Office 365, OneDrive offers Cloud storage. So all students can
use One Drive to store up to 1TB of data files.

For personal PCs you can use a Microsoft provided client to
synchronise the data between the cloud and your local storage (if using
MS Windows OS). (N.B. This facility is NOT provided in clusters.

Printing
Printing is managed centrally through ICTprintservice all around the
College

Top up online (more than £5) or at money loaders (less than £5) in

Students can install Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, OneNote, and more on up to
five PCs and Macs, plus five tablets,
including iPad. All work can be saved online
in OneDrive and accessed from any device.
The same software is available on College’s
many public PCs.

ICT Security
ICT’s Security Team works to keep College networks safe and secure,
filtering SPAM, tackling scam emails and offering support. Protects the
College against viruses and network threats:
• Hardware firewall
• Symantec Anti-Virus
• Malwarebytes (Anti malware)
Conditions of Use - You need to abide by Conditions of Use for IT
Services concerning anti-social behaviour and misuse under UK law.
• Don’t torrent copyrighted material (MPAA)
• Personal logins are recorded, but not monitored except when any
breach of the Conditions is suspected
