Background & Objective
Impacts of global environmental changes have
been experienced in many parts of the world, including Indonesia. The climate change has caused the
uncertainties in the agricultural and fisheries production, which in turn affect to the long-term availability
of food (food security). On the other hand, the pressures on forest resources have increased significantly which has caused many environmental problems. In order to deal with food security issues as
well as to effectively monitor the environmental
problems in Indonesia, Bogor Agricultural University
(IPB) and the National Institute of Aeronautics and
Space of Indonesia (LAPAN) have committed to work
together in developing satellite which will be called
LISat (LAPAN-IPB Satellite). As the first step, LAPAN and IPB will organize the 1st International Symposium on LAPAN-IPB Satellite (LISat) which will be
held on November 2014
The main objective of this international symposium is to enhance the beneficial use of satellite
technology in the fields of agriculture, forestry, climate change, and marine resources, in terms of food
security and environmental monitoring programmes.
