ISU Beekeeping Club Minutes for the meeting of April 23, 2014 Moulton Hall Room 309 Call to Order: President Kelsey Cravens called the meeting to order at 7:47 PM. In attendance were the following: Amy Miller, Jarek Palmer, Kim Brown, Brenda Litchfield, Bob Williams, Ron Draper, Dave Randolph, Willy Hunter, Drew Gumbiner, Tom Pankonen, President Kelsey Cravens, V. President Jenny Kamm, Secretary Mark Hodges, Treasurer Alec Baran, and Advisor Carl Wenning. Officer Reports: Secretary’s report: The minutes of the meeting on March 19, 2014 were read and approved. Treasurer’s report: The balance is at $387.27 and dues are 5 dollars. This report was approved. Old Business: • Discussion of the May field day in Heyworth was held. A decision will be made by Tom on a date for this and will be posted on the club Facebook. • SGNC request: Two Nature & Science Field Days this spring. Friday May 9th and Thursday May 15th. Volunteers: Patti, Kim, Stephanie, Patti’s sister, Carl New Business: • The nominations were closed and voted upon for the 2014-­‐2015 academic officers. • The Election of the 2014-­‐2015 officers was held. The results were as follows o President: Jenny Kamm o Vice President: Maureen Dubczuk o Secretary: Mark Hodges o Treasurer: Alec Baran • Completing RSO registration and registering for Festival ISU were talked about. Jenny and Carl will collaborate on each of these. • Discussion on creating a membership brochure was held. Most thought it was a great idea. Carl will prepare the text and Kim will work on design. Ideas: Please drop Carl an email. • Renewing memoranda for understanding loans from the ISUBC. Carl will take care of this to current members who have club equipment. • Ideas for next school year: Intro for new members (Beekeeping 101), Winter Preparations of hives, January workshop (there will be no autumn workshop), suggestion for collaboration with horticultural center, or horticultural club. Programs: Secretary Mark Hodges gave an informative talk about the history of beekeeping in North America. • Advisor Carl Wenning gave a talk about the contemporary threats to all bees that result from modern agricultural practices. Upcoming Events: • Watch for Facebook post concerning May Field Day. • May 9th and May 15th talks at the SGNC: Nature and Science Field Days. Volunteers are still welcome. Contact Carl if interested. Announcements: • Annual ISBA dues payments for officers have been made. • The SGNC contract has been signed. • Patti Koranda gave a talk at the Children’s Discovery Museum on April 18th. • Hive opening at Wenning residence is not possible because of lack of bees. • Dues are still only 5 dollars per semester. Please pay to Treasurer Alec Baran. • The club will reimburse Carl for honey sticks and ISBA dues for officers.
