solutions provider in storage, embedded, mobility and healthcare services, has enabled Jay Polychem; a
Delhi based petrochemical trading company, to automate its disaster recovery operations at minimal time.
About the Company:
Delhi based Jay Polychem, established in 1988, is a 360-degree petrochemical trading company with
sourcing, storage and distribution
infrastructure. The company is also
engaged in the production of oil and
gas, development of infrastructure
projects, besides having interest in
inter-state power distribution. Jay
Polychem has extended its presence
to 13 cities across India and internationally to Singapore, Dubai, London
and Houston.
The Challenge
Jay Polychem works in a technology intensive atmosphere
and are well aware of the need for data backup. They used
the age-old model for their business continuity prior to the
implementation of StorTrends DR implementation.
The company had a disaster recovery site to keep data safe, and
scheduled regular backup of mission critical production data
and business information.
However, Jay Polychem relied on manual backup that is the data
were manually copied from its primary business location using
external drives and transported to data recovery site located in
the same city.
This method had its inherent risks such as natural disasters
(Earthquake, ﬁre), power shutdown and backup issues.
In addition, the process of manually moving data oﬀ-site and
restoring data from external drives is not only cumbersome but
also prone to human errors.
The Solution
AMI oﬀered Jay Polychem, StorTrends, IPSAN/NAS data
storage solution which oﬀers important network
storage functionalities such as uniﬁed storage,
business continuity, disaster recovery, storage
eﬃciency and virtualization support. The key feature of
StorTrends solution was that it was customized to suit
the data replication and recovery needs of the
customer.
While conventional solutions demand investment
in third party external WAN accelerators, AMI’s
StorTrends comes with built-in WDS (WAN optimization
Data Service) and thus eliminates the cost and risk of
single point failure, associated with external WAN
accelerators. The adoption of this high-end technology
results in phenomenal saving of data-replication time.
Solution Delivery
AMI installed two StorTrends 2400i appliances –
one at the primary site where data was generated
and another at the remote data recovery site
where data was backed up. The two appliances
were connected through a leased line and
conﬁgured for Snap Assisted Replication (SAR) &
WAN Acceleration.
The data generated at the primary location was
replicated at the secondary location once in every
hour. The company can quickly access data from
the secondary storage appliance, in case there
are any failures at the primary storage location.

AMI’s StorTrends reduced the burden and requirement of manual backup extensively. The need for
human intervention and location speciﬁc disasters were diminished signiﬁcantly. Jay Polychem took about
20% of their original time for data-replication compared to other competing disaster recovery solutions.
