Hello Everyone! June is finally here! Summer has arrived. What a magnificent month in Wisconsin. We are blessed to watch the nature fill the empty spaces around us. A once bare area will be full of last year’s perennials. The trees blossom with leaves and greeneries. It is even nice to see the yellow dandelions after a cold, snowy winter. We all live in a great State. We may sometimes take it for granite, but when you leave you realize the beauty you have not been recognizing. It is the same way with people. It is easy to take our family and friends for granite. Life gets busy and people get pushed aside; even though the people around us make us whole. The people we choose to surround ourselves with bring out different aspects of our personalities. Part of our personality is only revealed around certain people in our lives. If you think about it, when you first meet someone I would guess you probably show them a ballpark of five-ten percent of who you are. Showing higher percentages to other people is a sign of a friendship and comfort ability. Enjoy the summer, enjoy the people around you. Look around and enjoy what you have no matter what it is or how much it may be. Live for what you have and not for what you want. Only you can make it amazing! Work Hours The opportunity to put in work hours for the 20132014 season has now past. All of the events taking place from here on out this year go towards your 2014-2015 season work hours. If you were not able to fulfill your work hours you will be charged $20.00 per hour. There are many ways to put in your work hours throughout the year. It starts in the summer with many opportunities available to you during our summer fundraising. Some people choose to pay the $20.00. If you have any questions about work hours you can contact Lori Szymanski at: [email protected] WSHA News 3 Senior Exit Projects New Facility As we all know the school referendum did fall short st from passing on April 1 . We still need to look positively at how we can build a new facility. The school referendum may come up again in a few months which would give our association more options of building a new location. If you have any ideas on a location or would like to be on our long range planning committee please contact John Hammes at 790-2927. Upcoming Opportunities ***Day time Rink Manager*** [Mike Berghefer shown on left and Chad Brueggeman shown on right] This year we had some very great senior exit projects that were constructed around WSHA. Thank you to our three seniors that dedicated their projects towards hockey. Thank you to Noah Belling for very ambitiously opening his own business and locating the Sharp Shack at our hockey facility. This allowed families to have a convenient location to have their skates sharpened this year. Noah also brought friendliness and personality to his project. Noah deserves an A+. Thank you to Mike Berghefer for putting on the pond hockey event this year. This allowed adults and children to hit the ice and partake in a weekend of fun. Mike presented $1,000.00 to Chad Brueggeman the President of the hockey association. What a great donation and awesome accomplishment! Mike deserves an A+. Lastly, thank you to Julian Grosskopf. Not only did he help our goalies this year in improving their skills and dedication, but he also helped inform people on the seriousness of Crohn’s disease. Julian raised $700.00, which will be given to Matt Massie whom has been an outstanding goalie coach for many years. Matt Massie is much appreciated. WSHA also gave Julian $300.00 to make it an even $1,000.00. Julian deserves an A+. All three of these young men attended the May General Membership Meeting and gave a brief closing of how their senior exit projects turned out. All three did an amazing job. Thank you again to all three of these inspiring seniors and good luck to all of you in the future! WSHA is in need of an individual who can manage and help maintain the ice during the day during the 2014-2015 season. If you are able, willing or know someone who may be interested, please contact a board member. This is greatly needed for next season. This is not a position that we can make do without. We do have a couple guys that are going to help as much as they can, but we need someone to take on this as the actual manager. If you have the time or are laid off during the winter please consider this position! Referee Scheduler We are in need for someone to take on the position as the ice scheduler. This is a very critical position to maintain. Without referees we would not be able to hold any games at our rink. Please consider chairing this position. If you are interested please contact Robin Komay at [email protected] or any Board member. Referees WSHA is in need for someone to volunteer to be the ref scheduler this year. We seemed to be short referees this past year on a number of occasions. Our Association could use a lot more referees to help with games for this coming season. If you or your child 12 years of age or older is interested in becoming a referee for the 2014-2015 season please contact Robin or a board member. This is a great way to earn extra money during the WSHA News 4 winter months, while helping our association out at the same time. Promotions WSHA is in need for someone to take on helping with promotional duties. This does not entail a lot of work. The main duty would be writing small news clips about upcoming and past events for the Coulee News to help promote WSHA. (Ex. Team making it to state, or large event taking place) If you are interested in helping out with this duty contact Kelly Cottrell at [email protected]. Policies & Bi-Laws WSHA is in need of an individual or group of individuals to sit on a policy & Bi-law committee. Our policies and bi-laws were created with a lot of time and thought. This position does not entail changing the policies/bi-laws; it is to keep up with the small changes and additions. If you are interested in this position please contact Robin Komay at: [email protected] Upcoming Events June Dairy Days Parades Last weekend the June Dairy Days parade took place. It was a beautiful day. Thank you to Autumn Grooms for volunteering her time to take on the parades this year. She did a great job at organizing one of our promotional tools of the year. It is great to promote WSHA during the summer parades. Parents and kids are encouraged to walk through the WSHA parades. These are great events. Look for more details on upcoming parades. Step up and become involved! Go WSHA! JDD’s Beer Tent One of the most popular ways to put your work hours in has now passed. WSHA worked in the beer tent last weekend. Everything went smooth. Like most years in the past there was a little rain Saturday night, but that does not keep the crowd from hanging around and listening to the bands. Amanda Skrede has taken over the beer tent fundraiser the last two years. She always does a remarkable job at making sure everything is taken care of. She puts a lot of time and dedication into her passion for hockey and WSHA. Thank you Amanda! Your help and dedication is refreshing! Face Off Adam Daniels stepped up as Chair of the Face Off committee. He is very much appreciated. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October th. 11 The prizes will be as follows: 1 $10,000 5 $1000 10 $200 There will be 600 tickets sold, which is a raise from last year of 80 tickets. Members will receive 1 free ticket for every 10 sold. An exciting new twist has been implemented this year. If you sell the winning ticket you will get $1000.00. Any tickets sold the evening of the event will be credited back to the association, as they cannot be given credit to any one individual at that point. The WSHA Face Off event has become our biggest fundraiser of the year. We can make it even bigger this year. Much has been learned and noted in the last couple of years. There will be a cross bow given away for the Early Bird winner at the Golf Outing. Once again prime rib will be served. The band, Coyote Wild will be playing for the first time. Get ready for this event. It is going to be an event that people will remember. Do your part and sell your tickets Thank you again to Adam for stepping up to chair this amazing event! 2014 Golf Outing The Annual Golf Outing will take place this year on Aug 23 at Fox Hollow. WSHA News 5 Put this date on your calendar. It is a great event to wind down the summer fundraising activities. This is always a great event that is known to be a lot of fun. Megan Weibel and Sara Langrehr will once again chair this event. The Golf outing does take a lot of time and preparation to putting it together. These ladies have already formed their committee and are setting plans into motion. Look out for more information as the event grows closer. We thank the whole committee for putting our annual Golf Outing together!
