LONGMEADOW PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 7 March 2014 To Parents / Carers Staffing Last week we said a temporary goodbye to Mrs Evans our SENCO who has gone on maternity leave. We look forward to hearing good news before Easter. Mrs Evans will return in December. This week we have welcomed Mrs Pegman who will be covering the role. Book Week/World Book Day We have had a fantastic Book Week with lots of activities and fun learning. Yesterday the children and some of the staff came to school dressed as Aliens and book characters. It was lovely to see them dressed as different aliens. Well done. Don’t forget to spend your World Book Day tokens at Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s or Smiths!! Travelling Book Fair Thank you to all the parents who came and bought books at the book fair. It raised £695.21. We will receive about £350.00 commission to spend on more books for the children. The Comet Sports Award 2014 We didn’t win the Comet Sports Award 2014 for “School of the Year” but we were runners up. We are extremely proud of all out sporting achievements. Well done Longmeadow. SPORTS NEWS Football Longmeadow v Almond Hill – Boys 5/6 24 February 1 – 1 (S Tillbrook) Longmeadow v Almond Hill - Girls 5/6 28 February 0 - 8 Forthcoming Matches Trotts Hill v Longmeadow – Boys 5/6 14 March Ashtree v Longmeadow – Boys 5/6 Cup Match – 18 March Sports Hall Athletics On 26 & 27 February a group of year 3/4 and 5/6 children went to the Sports Hall Athletics at Barnwell. The children all worked extremely hard and were well behaved as usual. Well done. High 5 Netball Festival – 5 & 6 March On Tuesday (Year 5/6) and Thursday (Year 3/4) a selection of children went to JHN for the High 5 Netball Festival. The children all had a great time. On Tuesday the yellow team came 3rd and the red team came 6th. On Thursday our Red teams won 2 games and the yellow team drew one game and lost one game – well done all of you. Website The new website is now live but currently under construction – check regularly for new updates. Much of it is up to date. Any feedback is welcomed. Our Chicks For the last week Year 1 have had baby chicks in the class. They started off as eggs and then over the last week all but one have hatched. We had 5 girls and 4 boys. The children have all really enjoyed the experience of seeing them from start to finish “I like the chicks when they are walking on the carpet and they pooed haha – we also gave them food and I will miss them when they go” – George Ferguson “The chicks are really nice and they have really grown fast” – Emily Docherty “We got to hold the chicks and they were really cute” Elise Gayh Friends News Valentines Disco - Thank you to the Friends of Longmeadow once again for a great disco – they raised £543.00. 10p Sale - Thank you too all the parents who came to the 10p sale before half term – we raised £44.00. Reminders Year 6 Gunpowder Mills – Year 6 are going to the Gunpowder Mills on Tuesday 11 March. They will need a packed lunch and we would like the children to dress in Victorian clothing, to really get into the spirit of the day – if you have not sent in the consent form your child will not be able to go. Parents Evening - If you haven’t yet made an appointment the boards will still be in the main hall until Tuesday morning. After that please contact the office for an appointment. Residential Trips - Can we remind parents that all remaining money for the Staylittle trip must be paid before the trip leaves next month also Paris, Sayers Croft and Mill Rythe residential trip money is due. E Cigarettes - There have been a number of complaints about parents / adults smoking e cigarettes on the school premises. The rules are exactly the same as if it were a real cigarette. This school is a non-smoking school – please do not smoke! Dogs - Can we remind you that all dogs / pets are not permitted in the school grounds this includes being carried. Can I also advise that if you tie your dog up outside can you make sure it is not too near the gates. Thank you!
