Education Services
When a student succeeds, we succeed. This is why the
MCAS Miramar Education Center strives to provide
superb education services for Servicemembers and their
family members to help them achieve their education
goals.
College Counseling
Counselors are available to help all Servicemembers,
veterans, and family members reach their education
goals. Walk-ins and appointments are both welcome.
Military Tuition Assistance (TA)
The TA rate for FY 15 is $250 per semester credit hour,
at a maximum of $4,500 per fiscal year. Availability of
funding is limited by fiscal quarter per installation.
Military Academic Skills Program (MASP)
This is a free, two-week program designed to help
Servicemembers and their military affiliated civilians
build a solid academic Math and English foundation
which will enable them to prepare for exams and
advance their education. PTAD orders are required for
Active Duty Military. (Applications are available online)
Leadership Scholar Program (LSP)
LSP is a partnership between highly selective schools and
the U.S. Marine Corps to help qualified and honorably
discharging Marines continue their education.

The United States Military Apprenticeship
Program (USMAP)
USMAP
provides
the
opportunity
for
Servicemembers, in applicable MOS’s, to gain a
nationally recognized “Certificate of Completion”
from the Department of Labor by recording hours

Troops to Teachers
Troops to Teachers is a program to help eligible
military personnel begin new careers as teachers in
public schools where their skills, knowledge, and
experience are most needed.

Joint Services Transcript (JST)
The JST (formerly SMART) is a record of each
Servicemember’s military training for which the
American Council on Education (ACE) recommends
college credits. Servicemembers can get a copy of
their JST at the Education Center or online at

Marine Corps COOL
COOL (Credentialing Opportunities On-Line) helps
Marines find information on certifications and licenses
related to their Military Occupational Specialties
(MOSs). COOL explains how Marines can meet civilian
certification and license requirements and provides links
to numerous resources to help get them started.

Military Classification/DANTES Testing
A wide variety of tests are offered for purposes such
as MOS change, college entrance, college credit, and
college proctor. For a current testing schedule please
refer to our website. Prior registration is required for all
testing (except TABE).
CLEP, DSST, and Pearson Vue Testing
National University administers CLEP, DSST, and
Pearson Vue tests for MCAS Miramar (scores can
be sent to any school). To schedule please
