History of Mukti Nath Temple in Nepal
Hari Panta
Pokhara: Mukti Nath is a
sacred place both for
Hindus and Buddhists
located in Mukti Nath
Valley at an altitude of
3,710 meters at the foot

which
sometimes mistakenly is

Within Hinduism, it is
called the sacred place
Mukti Kshetra, which
literally means the "place
of liberation or moksha".
This temple is considered

the murti to be a

of
Avalokitesvara.
The central shrine of Sri
Mukti Nath is considered
one of the eight most
sacred shrines for Hindu
Vaishnavas known as
Svayam Vyakta Ksetras,
the other seven being
Srirangam, Srimushnam,
Tirupati, Naimisharanya,
Thotadri,Pushkar and
Badri Nath. The temple is
very small. Mukti Nath is
one of the most ancient
Hindu temples of God
Vishnu. The murti is of
gold and is tall enough to
compare with a man. The
prakaram(outer
courtyard) has 108 bull
faces through which
water is poured. It is of
freezing temperature. The
sacred water that flows in
108 pipes around the
temple complex denote

There is an old Buddhist
monk present in the

conducted by Buddhists.
The Mukti Nath Temple is

Ammonite Stone on
Verger of Extinction
JB weekly/ Myagdi: Ammonite stone-a rare
and precious stone bearing religious value is on verge of extinction from the Kaligandaki
River owing to unchecked smuggling. There
has been unlawful extraction and smuggling
of the priceless national heritage-which is only
found in the Kaligandaki flow route stretching
from Kagbeni to Ridi of Gulmi-from Galeswor
of Myagdi to Kagbeni of Mustang. Though then
Chief District Officer of Myagdi Ram Bahadur
Kurumbang had conceived an idea and formed
a committee to check illegal trade of the
stones, now it is almost defunct.
An effort was made to preserve ammonite
stones in 2068 under the leadership of
Chairperson of the Galeswor Area
Development Trust Rudra Bahadur KC. During
the period, three Indian nationals were found to
have involved in extracting and smuggling
ammonite stones. Even now, people from

Required Eligibility
of the Pundit
The word 'Pundit' according to the Oxford
Dictionary of Different Words by Oxford University
press 2002 edited by Archile Hobson is 'an expert
in a particular subject or field who is frequently
called on to give opinions about it to the public:
also pundit a Hindu scholar or wise man.'
(P.351)By this fact it is obvious the word pundit
or pandit indicates subject expert man, or wise
man or Hindu religious pundit who performs
religious rituals and activities. To be a real pundit
there has been some requirements or eligibilities
established by Hindu law of religion. That he or
she must be out of lust or lure free. He/she must
have physical purity. Physical purity means neat
& clean dress washed up & daily rule of bath &
worshiping of desired goddess or god. Further,
he she must bear free & frank mind equal to all.
Service to humanity should be the goal not a
profession. In Hindu culture pundit is the great
Guru. Therefore, his behavior, thinking &
conducting every activity must be a model to all.
Being a pundit, he must be a Brahmin i.e.
Upadhyaya. The duty of Upadhyaya is to give &
take the donation, to perform religious ritual &
do one self, to teach. So, the Upadhyay Brahmin
is supreme to be pundit in the field of Hindu
religion. Expert pundit on one subject needs no
more supremacy of the caste, but in religious
field to be an eligible pundit he must belong to
Hindu supreme caste i.e. Upadhyay Brahmin.
Second quality of the pundit is to have a special
knot on the head within hair. Third quality to be
pundit is he must be a god fearing or religious
who have belief in Hindu religion. Next
requirements of a pundit are self-coking man or
strict obedient of Hindu religious rule as to eat
cooking by himself or eating only within family
not in the bar or hotel open to all. Again, next
quality of a pundit is not to smoke or not to be
habitual of narcotics items including drug.
Moreover, to be a good pundit he should be self
satisfied. Further more, one should avoid being
a critic of others unnecessarily. A good pundit
must not mix-up with every one.
Mass eating with every caste disqualifies the
pundit. A pundit must have the global thinking
as the whole human beings as his brothers,
sisters, mothers & fathers. He should wish
welfare of the whole world. A pundit may not have
any fee what ever comes to be as donation he
should live with content or satisfied. There should
be no political bias of a pundit. Who ever believes
on religion who acts as the rule of religion,
remains under the law of religions, pundit must
visit & perform religious activities, other wise
pundit would be the victim of humiliation.
Nepalese system of pundit has had ever taken
religion & religious activities as the profession
but every religious function is being profession.
Therefore it must be renovated in accordance to
the Hindu rule of religion. Due to the Maoist
prohibition of the Sanskrit learning has resulted
great scarcity of the pundit. In spite of the fact
no Jaisi should involve in the field of karmakand.
Jaisi may have so many jobs in various fields.
They need not sneak in the field of others.

Who is Untouchable?
Famous Nepalese folk singer Pashupati
Sharma has recently sang a song with
words-we are Nepalese despite of all
castes. The song is surprisingly criticized
by the people who claim of advocating on
behalf of underprivileged/lower-castes. A
kind of question/doubt has arisen on their
mission. Are they really serious about
casteless society or they are simply
playing with the sentiment of innocent
people?
Today we are enjoying the federal
democratic system in Nepal. Also we are
going ahead for the re-structure of the
over-all state mechanism. It is quite natural
for one and all the ethnicities seeking their
identity and self-respect. When we see the
history of America, known as the rolemodel for democratic principles in the
present-day world, we find that it was only
after Civil War (1863-65) that the US
constitution guaranteed citizenship and
other rights to the former slaves. In case
of Nepal, slavery was abolished by the then
Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher
whereas the un-touch-ability has not been
totally eliminated in practice till date.
Today I am trying to describe the bold step
launched by Pandit Muktinath Sharma at
the time of around 1950s for social
revolution in Nepal. He was a member of
Nepali Congress Party throughout his life.
Although the activities of Mr. Sharma are
not much discussed, his greatly
remarkable deeds stand as a milestone in
the social transformation. The most
pertinent reason behind the lack of publicity
of his contribution is the hesitation
(courage/boldness?) of many people to
scale his manifold personality. One should
know that he was an educationist, political
cadre, social motivator, sensitive reader
and litterateur having faith upon democratic
socialism and revolutionary idealism. He
played important role to explore Mahendra
cave, construct road from Bagar to it along
with K.I. Singh Bridge over the Seti River.
Pundit Sharma had special contribution to
Bhotikhola Water Supply Project as well
as Pokhara Airport at that time. He
established Bindyabasini Secondary
School at Batulechaur, Pokhara 16 under
his own initiation and greater effort for the
development of this community with the
help of quality education. There was his
memorable support to set up National
Secondary School at Purano Tundikhel
and Prithvi Narayan Campus located at
Bhimkalipatan at Pokhara. But only those
people are highlighted who are fond of
flattery and false impressions. Original
contributors are always left on the bank by
this selfish society ruled by centralized
authority driven by blind rulers. Who cares
about the vision of such farsighted sons
of Nepal who had a dream of decorating
this motherland as a beautiful garden of
different flowers? It is shameful to state that
the government of Nepal is still unable to
assess the real worth of those gems
outside the four passes of Kathmandu
valley.
The condition of
caste discrimination
was dreadful some
70 years before.
One could guess
how it would have
been when the son
of a Hindu Brahmin
ploughed the field!
The one who is
expected to perform
daily rituals with high
prestige, honor and
#K. P. Parajuli
respect wearing the
(Advocate)
holy thread was
doing the task of
Shudra, the one who was supposed to be
the lowest in social ranking.
For reference, Shudra is the fourth varna
(first Brahmin: priests, second Kshatriya:
those with governing functions, third
Vaishya: farmers and traders) as
prescribed in the Purusha Sukta of the Rig
Veda, one of the sacred texts of Hinduism.
According to this ancient text, the Shudras
are to perform functions of serving the
other three varna and the same varna
(pillar, class) system became rigid in the
later Vedic period. Brahmin priests were
engaged in attaining the highest spiritual
knowledge of Brahman and adhered to
different branches of the Vedas. The
Brahmin priest is responsible for religious
rituals in temples and homes of Hindus
and is a person authorized after rigorous
training in Vedas and sacred rituals and
as a liaison between humans and the god.
I remember that one of my friends in my
primary school from such lower caste
was once forced to wash the tea-cup in
a hotel and even the teachers supported
the hotel owner. Such cups used to be
purified only after sprinkling drops of water
touched by gold! What a nasty belief! I
still remember how nervous he was to
enter into my house.
When Pundit Sharma publicly drank water
from a Dalit (untouchable one) during a
mass meeting organized on May 1, 1964
a wave for social makeover arose higher.
He hated the so-called ethnic inequality
and always raised voice and reflected that
in action for the end of feudalism. When
his book "Who is Untouchable?" was
published in 1954, the then rulers had
seized all copies from the press and also
banned selling them. The subject matters
addressed by that novel are still contextual
and useful. Even in such a tough and
critical situation, Indra Man Sherchan and
Chandra Man Sherchan were encouraged
to publish that novel. Pandit Muktinath
Memorial Academy is taking that
responsibility now. Muktinath Timilsina
(1914-1989) was free thinker and fearless
warrior. He was among a few real
activists who continuously fought for the
true revolution indeed. Famous political
leader, Moda Nath Prashrit remembers

Mother-Father & Son's Compatibility Astrology?
™ "I know Aquarius and
Sagittarius get along very
well from experience. I've
had
2
Sagittarius
girlfriends (one turn to
wife) and they both were
the best experiences I
have ever had with a girl.
I've done compatibility
online with my wife and our
sons, and my sons and
I...and to say the least we
suck as parents in
compatibility with our own
kids. They will get along
beautifully
Is this true? What is said
about parents & son
relationship?
So again.
Mother- Sagittarius
Father (me) - Aquarius
Son (3y/o) - Taurus (He
shows signs of a true
Taurus already)
Son (3 m/o) - cancer (I
think he's left handed like
me?)
Update: yeah, this is a
report. I didn't get anything
horoscope. I got "My
friend share, her like
totally an Aquarius and I so
like get along with him, and
so that means. Like..."
Best Answer: When a
Taurus child is born to a
Sagittarius parents, they
both need to give each
other space to learn about
the world and about the
unique personalities that
make up their family. Both
Signs have a great deal to
gain from exposure to their
naturally
different
lifestyles.
While
Sagittarius thrives on
variety and novelty,
Taurus is often content
with security and tradition.
Sagittarius may move
around a lot or constantly
introduce new things into
their child's life, hoping
that great exposure will
broaden their mind. The
child may still be happy
with vanilla ice cream
instead of triple chocolate
mocha chip. Taurus may
long for a more traditional
home and parental
environment but will
lovingly acknowledge their
innovative parents. It can
be hard for Sagittarius to
accept the down to earth,
fixed approach of Taurus.
At the same time, it might
be difficult for Taurus to
accept
Sagittarius'
restlessness.
Rest
assured that this duo
loves one another very
much, but they quietly
question each other's
approach to the world.
The best aspect of the
Taurus-Sagittarius family
relationship is the new
perspective they can give
each other once they
accept
the
other's
differences. Opposites
can draw one another
closer, and these family
members enjoy one
another's
company
despite their unique
approaches to living. As
long as they communicate
with each other and
appreciate
their
differences, theirs will be
a stable and happy family.
When a Cancer child is
born to a Sagittarius
parents, they both need to
give each other space to
learn about the energy of
the family unit. Both have
a great deal to gain from
knowing the intricacies of
each other, even if it
appears they have little in
common on the surface.
They have the potential to
help one another realize
their
goals.
While
Sagittarius is a thrill seeker
and enjoys an occasional
adrenaline rush, Cancer
derives much more
satisfaction
from
emotional
security.
Sagittarius thinks their
child should get out and
live a bit more, but they
respect their child's
intensity and deep
commitments. Cancer and
Sagittarius have different
approaches to life. Cancer
is more emotional and
more traditional, while
Sagittarius is the restless
wanderer. It can be hard
for Sagittarius to accept
the emotional tidal wave of
Cancer. At the same time,
it may be difficult for
Cancer to accept the
Sagittarian restlessness
and craving for external
activities. The Sagittarius
parents
needs
to
recognize their child's
need for a secure base to
keep their dreams and
ambitions on track. The
Cancer child can benefit
from their parent's need
for diversity in daily life and
appreciation
of
excitement. The best
aspect of the CancerSagittarius
family
relationship is the security
they can give each other.
They have a lot to learn
from one another about
life and how to live it. As
long as they communicate
openly and honestly and
celebrate
their
differences, rather than
getting weighed down by
them, theirs will be a
stable and happy family.
When
Cancer
and
Aquarius come together, it
can be a case of the
merging of two opposite
ends of the spectrum.
Cancer has a deeply
emotional approach to life
and feels the pain and the
joy of the world around
them. Aquarius has an
offbeat, unconventional
approach to nearly every
situation and provides the
occasional offbeat streak
their child needs. While
Cancer may retreat into a
quiet room during a party,
Aquarius is the gregarious
host amongst friends and
excels in social situations.
Cancer is the quiet
support behind the
scenes, dealing better
with the family in a one-onone situation. Parents and
child like to do things their
way and don't like to
encounter resistance.
Cancer
appreciates
tradition, routine, and
exhibits conservative
morals. Conversely, the
Aquarius parent is modern
and numbed by routine,
the dull and the boring.
Cancer will find their
Aquarius parent to be
exciting. The free spirited
Aquarius parent may feel
sometimes restricted by
the possessiveness of a
pinching Crab. Aquarius
moves through life with
pure
intellectual
exploration, while Cancer
is more pragmatic. If these
two can learn to accept
and grow from one
another's qualities in a
positive way, they can go
anywhere or accomplish
anything together. Both
Cancer and Aquarius can
be
ambitious
and
determined. The best
aspect of the CancerAquarius
family
relationship is that when
they come together they
are an indomitable force.
Once this family can work
out their differences, come
together, and agree on the
inner workings of each
other as individuals, the
dynamics of this family will
establish a good balance.
When a Taurus child is
born to an Aquarius
parent, together they can
move mountains. Taurus
has a practical, down-toearth approach to life. On
the other hand, Aquarius
has an unconventional,
out-of-this-world
approach to just about
everything! This is a
classic case of the happy
parent who, despite their
open mind and love beads,
has raised a Republican
child. Taurus has a
practical, down-to-earth
approach to life, while
Aquarius
has
an
unconventional, out-ofthis-world approach to just
about everything! Both
Taurus and Aquarius can
be
implacable
and
opinionated. They like to
do things their way with as
little fuss as possible.
Taurus
appreciates
routine, while Aquarius
finds routine dull and
boring. They may appear
to have few common
interests, but they share a
very strong desire to
succeed in their own way.
Once these two family
members can overlook
their differences and
combine forces, they can
succeed at anything.
From their parent, the
Taurus child will learn to
keep reaching out for what
one wants and to move
away from something if it
is not working. The best
aspect of the TaurusAquarius
family
relationship is their power
as a team. When they
decide to come together
for a common goal, they
are unstoppable. Both
Signs have very powerful
personalities, but neither
will dominate the other--as
both have too much
respect for their fellow
family members to even
try. Once they can work out
their differences, join
forces, and agree on their
individual roles within the
family, the dynamics of this
family relationship can be
wonderful and rewarding.

'Jyotish' means light.
Light emerged since the

is the basic & primary
tool of Astrology. Origin of
light or the jyotish dates
back to Vedic era. The
word jyotish is to be found
in ancient Ved i.e. Rigved,

Mother of the Jupiter is

tall feature Jupiter has
been called Brihaspati.
Jurisdiction of the Jupiter
is urinary place. Jupiter
exists one year full period
in one zodiac. Jupiter
lives on Aries one year
than moves into Taurus.
Further living in Taurus
one year transforms into
Gemini. Thus, Jupiter
covers the whole period
of twelve years in twelve
houses. Jupiter has its
own house on Sagittarius

History of astrology in Greece and Rome
Astrological beliefs in
correspondences
between
celestial
observations
and
terrestrial events have
influenced
various
aspects of human history,
including world-views,
language and many
elements of social culture.
Among Indo-European
peoples, astrology has
been dated to the 3rd
millennium BC, with roots
in cylindrical systems
used to predict seasonal
shifts and to interpret
celestial cycles as signs
of
divine
communications. Until
the
17th
century,
Astrology was considered
a scholarly tradition, and
it helped drive the
development
of
astronomy. It was
commonly accepted in
political and cultural
circles, and some of its
concepts were used in
other traditional studies,
such
as
alchemy,
meteorology
and
medicine. By the end of
the
17th
century,
emerging
scientific
concepts in astronomy,
such as heliocentric,
were
irrevocably
undermining
the
theoretical basis of
astrology,
which
subsequently lost its
academic standing.
In the 20th century
Astrology gained broader
consumer popularity
through the influence of
regular mass media
products, such as
newspaper horoscopes.
The conquest of Asia by
Alexander the Great
exposed the Greeks to
the
cultures
and
cosmological ideas of
Syria, Babylon, Persia
and central Asia. Greek
overtook cuneiform script
as the international
language of intellectual
communication and part
of this process was the
transmission of Astrology
from cuneiform to Greek.
Sometime around 280
BC, Berossus, a priest of
Bell from Babylon, moved
to the Greek island of Kos
in order to teach astrology
and Babylonian culture to
the Greeks. With this,
what historian Nicholas
Champion calls, "the
innovative energy" in
astrology moved west to
the Hellenistic world of
Greece and Egypt.
According to Champion,
the Astrology that arrived
from the Eastern World
was marked by its
complexity, with different
forms of Astrology
emerging. By the 1st
century BC two varieties
of astrology were in
existence, one that
required the reading of
horoscopes in order to
establish precise details
about the past, present
and future; the other being
theurgic (literally meaning

As with much else, Greek
influence played a crucial
role in the transmission of
astrological theory to
Rome. However, our
earliest references to
demonstrate its arrival in
Rome reveal its initial
influence upon the lower
orders of society, and
display concern about
uncritical recourse to the
ideas of Babylonian 'stargazers'. Among the
Greeks and Romans,
Babylonia (also known as
Chaldea) became so
identified with Astrology
that 'Chilean wisdom'
came to be a common
synonym for divination
using planets and stars.
The first definite reference
to Astrology comes from
the work of the orator
Cato, who in 160 BC
composed a treatise
warning form overseers
against consulting with
Chileans. The 2ndcentury Roman poet
Juvenal, in his satirical
attack on the habits of
Roman women, also
complains about the
pervasive influence of
Chileans, despite their
lowly social status,
saying "Still more trusted
are the Chaldaeans;
every word uttered by the
Astrologer they will
believe has come from
Hammond's fountain, ...
nowadays no Astrologer
has credit unless he has
been imprisoned in some
distant camp, with chains

1950 where he had
declared, "Better will as
heaven and worse one
with hell." Criticizing the
existing
imaginary
concepts of heaven and
hell, Muktinath was
using his pen in many
subjects like education,
religion, culture, castes,
un-touch-ability, slavery,
feudalism, capitalism
and
socialism.
Especially he disclosed
the corrupted features of
orthodox
religious
leaders, Brahmins,
to heal abdominal
diseases and boost
mental development.
The ammonite stone also
has
yellow
metal
substance inside so its
smuggling is on the rise
for trade purpose, said
Pundit Rangaraj Shastri, a
researcher of the stone.
Chhetris and Feudal
Lords and tried to
generate awareness for
rights of females,
widows, laborers, Dalits
etc. He used to
advocate as "Brahma is
false-word is true;
creatures are evolved
from nature; Understand
this
as
supreme
knowledge." Even today,
some
people
are
economically exploited,
socially oppressed,
deprived of education
and
politically
marginalized. They are
outside the mainstream
of the state policy rather
than suitable reservations
and implementation of the
spirit of Civil Code 1971.
Dalits have to lie about
their surnames to be
able to get housing in
cities. There is also the
un-touch-ability
practiced within Dalits. It
is always easier to
examine others, but very
difficult to discover
ourselves.
