Four gave blood on the automated 2RBC machine which collects two units of red blood cells during the donation, so a total of 39 products were collected. Two of our donors donated for the first time! All participants (whether they were able to donate or not) registered to win a $100 credit on their JVT account. Congrats to Jean Olson who was our winner! Pictured is JVT member Jennifer Dirks. Scholarship Winner Essay Nicholas Young, son of Jeff & Ruth “What industry or opportunity would entice you to return to a rural community after completing your education and why?” Living in Clark, South Dakota, has proven to be invaluable in my pursuit of my future career. Clark is a small town that is home to one of the biggest business industries in the world: 235 E 1st Ave • PO Box 260 Groton, SD 57445 (605) 397.2323 jamesvalley.com STORE HOURS: Mon.- Fri. 8am- 5pm agriculture. While the agriculture related topics do not catch my eye, the impeccable use of business and stock markets that affect agriculture do. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have a plethora of my closest friends come from farms and have been given the opportunity to discuss with them the business aspects of agriculture. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to have business related conversations with my friends while discussing the constant changing world of agriculture business. Having such an influential industry in Clark made for interesting discussions in business and agriculture classes that I took throughout high school. Many times an entire class would be filled with the energetic and intriguing discussion about the market and how if affects all of the economy. Discussions covering investing in stocks, building my personal savings account, bull and bear markets, and many other business topics caught my attention. Although I have decided not to pursue an agricultural related career, I would not have found such a love for my chosen career of economics and finance without the influence of agriculture and its impact on the Clark Community. However, I would never cross agriculture in rural communities off my list of career opportunities. Living in Clark amongst the businessmen of such a substantial industry has been rewarding as well as inspirational. The opportunities that the agriculture industry provides are quite enticing. Although the meat and potatoes of big business lies in the heart of the world’s most populated cities, there exists major opportunity in rural environments. Rural communities such as Clark are often booming with agriculture business related jobs that can lead to rewarding careers. The world of agriculture is constantly evolving and the job opportunities related to it simultaneously evolving. There are so many jobs that revolve around the crucial industry of agriculture. The agriculture industry and the business related jobs that are incorporated in it provide an intriguing field of opportunities that will entice me after I complete my education.
