By linking each programme to subjects as diverse as sport, magic, puppetry, pirates and food, coupled with his relaxed and conversational style of presentation, Alasdair leads the audience on an adventure through many musical styles, demonstrating the amazing and surprising sounds of the orchestra. He regularly performs with the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony and the London Philharmonic. An exclusive recording artist for Chandos, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet received a Gramophone Award in 2011 for his recording of works by Debussy and Ravel. The Financial Times of London called his CDs of Haydn sonatas “landmark recordings”. Debussy’s Children’s Corner was written for his daughter and is a “picture” of childhood and of his daughter’s toys. Ravel’s Mother Goose suite was originally written as a piano duet for two children, Mimi and Jean, 6 and 7 years old. He has won numerous awards and prizes, including the 2009 Gramophone Award for his recording of Britten’s works for piano and orchestra as well as first prize at both the Naumburg International Competition and the Clara Haskil competition.
