TPL 3000 TRI-PLATE LINE 10 kHz TO 1 GHz EMC tests for vehicle components immunity to RF fields The Tri-Plate test method is specified in the surface vehicle standard SAE J1113-25 ”Electromagnetic Compatibility Measurement Procedure for Vehicle Components-Immunity to Radiated Electromagnetic Fields, 10 kHz to 1 GHz” and applicable for testing products such as air-bag control modules, engine and transmission control modules and other subsystems and their associated cables. The EUT height should be less than 1 / 3 of the distance between septum and outer plates. The Tri-Plate Line (TPL) works as an open TEM cell. It is a broadband parallel-plate construction with grounded top and bottom outer plates and an isolated center-plate. When RF signals are input at one end, the TPL will generate an electro-magnetic field between the plates. The opposite end is terminated with a 50 Ω load. A typical test configuration consists of signal generator, power amplifiers, power meters, TPL, 50 Ω load and (absorber lined) shielded room. The TPL 3000 is designed as specified in the SAE J1113-25. The TPL 3000 is shipped in a transportable form with complete assembly instructions for customer on-site installation. Meets the requirements of SAE J1113-25 and MES PW 67600A:2001 Efficient power conversion provides Technical specifications high fields with minimum power termination load Frequency range: Max. input power: Connectors: Typical impedance: Input power for 10 V/m: Distance between the plates: L x W x H: 10 kHz to 1 GHz 1000 W N-type, 50 Ω, female 72 Ω approx. 0.2 W (23 dBm), see graph 300 mm 3.0 m x 1.2 m x 1.65 m (including ground plane and table) Typical required input power for 10 V/m, Typical required input power in dBm N-Connectors for 50 Ω line feed and position left, pos. centre, pos. right 40 40 35 35 30 30 25 25 20 20 15 15 10 10 5 5 0 0 50 100 100 150 200 200 250 300 300 350 400 400 450 500 500 550 600 600 650 Frequency in MHz Left position Centre position Right position 700 700 750 800 800 850 900 900 1000 TPL 3000 TRI-PLATE LINE 10 kHz TO 1 GHz Typical return loss 00 Ref.Lvl -10.00 dBm Marker Res.Bw 3.0 MHz[3dB] TG.Lvl -20.00 dBm CF.Stp 99.500 MHz -8.02 dB 20.4 MHz Vid.Bw 3 MHz RF.Att Unit 10 dB [dB] -10 -10.0 Typical return loss in dB -20 -20.0 -30 -30.0 -40 -40.0 -50 -50.0 -60 -60.0 -70 -70.0 -80.0 100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 900 1000 Frequency in MHz -90.0 -100.0 Typical impedance versus length Start Span Typical impedance in Ω 5 MHz 995 MHz Center 502.5 MHz Sweep 100 ms 1 GHz Stop 75 75 Ohm 50 50 Ohm Feeding Feeding Point point Length Termination point Point Termination TPL 3000 TRI-PLATE LINE 10 kHz TO 1 GHz Typical test setup Software Test generator e.g. Teseq NSG 4070 with RF synthesizer and power meter RF output NSG 4070 RF out Local RF 7 8 9 MHz dBµV 4 5 6 kHz dBm STO RCL 1 2 3 Hz V StSize Step StSize StSize Step 2 Step FRQ LVL MOD ON/OFF Help Power meter Amp in ch.3 < +20 dBm 0 ch.2 < +20 dBm . 1 2nd 3 Enter Tuning < +10 dBm Hold Amp out ch.1 < +27 dBm Back Run Stop USB Power amplifier input Amp in Power Amp out Power meter 50 Ω ch. 1 n.c. ch. 2 forward power ch. 3 n.c.
