The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)
The PDPA came into force on 15 November 2013 and a grace period of 3 months was given for business entities to comply with the
registration requirements required under PDPA. Non compliance will expose the business entities and its directors and senior management to
fine of up to RM300,000.00 and imprisonment of up to 3 years. With such sanctions, businesses will have to handle personal data with care and
diligence
The PDPA upholds and protects the privacy of personal data in commercial transactions. It regulates
the collecting, usage and processing of personal data of customers, clients, employees, vendors etc for
commercial transactions.
This seminar will give participants comprehensive understanding of the act, business related issues in
particular the insurance industry that will arise upon enforcement, guidance of compliance, case studies
as well as understanding the roles of the Privacy officer in an insurance company and the rights of the
individual as regards the PDPA.
