Maria & Oscar Sandoval arrived from Guatemala
in the late ’80’s and live in Stamford. They are both
successful business owners; Maria opened Maya
Restaurant in 2009, and Oscar, Sandoval Landscaping,
in 1996. Maria has long been a community leader and
is currently the President of Grupo Quetzal, which
helps local Guatemalans and works closely with the
Guatemalan Embassy.
The Sandovals have been
generous in-kind donors to NLS since its inception.
They are prime examples of how hard work leads to the
realization of the American Dream, and NLS is proud to
call them friends.
We are a three year old resource center created to
strengthen the entire community by actively enhancing
the healthy integration of immigrants. Our mission
is to EDUCATE, EMPOWER & EMPLOY. We are
pleased to have reached more than 2,500 Stamfordarea immigrants to date with 72 hours per week of
free classes & programs. Our core programs are ESL;
a Worker Center for day workers; and Individual and
Family Support Services. In Stamford, 37% of the
population is foreign born. We need your support to
engage these newcomers into our community.
