This active session will engage participants in numerous parasport activities and discussions. You will leave with a number of activities for large and small spaces, along with warm ups/cool down. Delegates will take away strategies on how to easily integrate movement and sport skills, build fun fitness circuits and exercise in disguise games to get kids and adults moving. Amber Muir, Canadian Paralympic Committee Amber has extensive experience in education, sport, health and recreation. She graduated with a BPE and an MA. She is enthusiastic about supporting leaders in PE/activity/sport as they strive to engage all children and youth in quality PE, activity and healthy living. Andrea Andrecyk Andrea is an accomplished athlete who has medaled at 2 World Disabled Water Ski Championships. As an avid downhill skier she is an instructor with the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing program in the National Capital Region. A graduate from St. Lawrence College, Andrea works as a Graphic Designer. Lynn Campanella, Playocracy For the past 13 years Lynn has tried to create opportunities for people to play in a non-competitive, non-traditional way. Lynn truly enjoys using her passion of play as the tool to teach so valuable life and social skills and to encourage physical activity. Since 2013 Lynn has been part of the Physical Literacy Team for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. Ted Temertzoglou, Thompson Educational Publishing Ted has 20 years experience coaching and teaching Health & PE at the high school level. He's currently the Vice President of Teacher and Student Success at Thompson Educational Publishing. Ted works with students, teachers, school boards, physical education organizations and coaches around the world advocating & implementing quality Physical and Health Education Programs. He is also a certified personal trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologists. A4 A5 “Halton Concussion Education Program” This program addresses the need for concussion education for students. Interactive e-modules help students critically think and apply their learning to advocate for their safety and the safety of others. Participants will view the 3 grade specific modules & resources and consider how they may adopt them in their own program. This research will be used to develop a new 3 year school based marketing plan targeted at ages 6-24. The foundation for this plan is built on the CS4L program and PLAY tools. Sarah is a 1991 graduate of Queen's PHE program. “Kingston Revved Up” Kingston Revved Up is an accessible exercise program for adults with a mobility impairment and/or developmental disability. Alongside our volunteer trainers, our clients complete twice weekly exercise sessions which focus on strength training and cardiovascular endurance. Sasha Alexov, Physical and Health Education Canada Sasha is a Program Coordinator at PHE Canada where her initiatives are focused on physical literacy and physical education. Sasha completed a BHK and a BEd specializing PE at St. Francis Xavier U. She has worked with aboriginal children in grades 5-7 in an after-school program focusing on outdoor education. Sasha believes that all children have a right to be physically active and to acquire knowledge through physical activity to live an active lifestyle. Brianne Peters, Kingston Frontenac Public Library Brianne attended Brock U. for Child and Youth Studies before obtaining her MSc in Library and Information Science at Western U. Meredith Westcott, Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) Meredith has worked for KFPL since her high school days and has been working full-time in the Programming & Outreach department since 1998. Meredith keeps active by adding plenty of movement in her storytime sessions & keeping up with her lively Teen Advisory Group. Angela Kimmett, YMCA Angela is the General Manager of the YMCA of Kingston, overseeing 3 locations in the city. She has been serving in this post for 10 years. “Youth Friendly Checklist for Program Development” An outline of the development and possible usefullness in program development of the Youth Friendly Program Checklist developmed as part of the Kingston Youth Strategy. Chris Paterson, City of Kingston Chris is a recreation programmer with the City of Kingston focusing on children and youth. He's been working in this role since 2006 but has worked with children and youth since 1998. Highlights of his current portfolio include municipal day camps, afterschool drop ins, interest courses and involvement in the K2K Youth Strategy. “If you want to be a Penguin, a Penguin you shall be: An inclusive approach to sport and recreation” The Brock Niagara Penguins is a competitive and recreational program for youth and adults with a disability, and one if it’s kind in the Niagara region. This presentation will speak to the vision and values of the Penguins, and to the importance of involving people with a disability in sport and recreational opportunities. It will also testify to the success of the program, exemplified through expert programming, appropriate environment and supports, and the removal of barriers.
