Information for KTW-testing
Scope
By means of the testing according to KTW Guideline, Coatings Guideline, Lubricant Guideline, and
Elastomer Guideline it is determined if substances from the tested non-metallic product were
released into the drinking water and therefore non tolerable changes of the drinking water could
occur.
Recipe (chemical formulation)
By recipe is meant the detailed chemical composition of the material that is used to manufacture
the product. The recipe in dependence of the material type has to be in accordance in each case
to the applicable positive list of KTW Guideline, Coatings Guideline, Lubricant Guideline and
Elastomer Guideline.
For the disclosure of the recipe a secrecy agreement can be concluded. On demand we will send
you our template.
Migration test
After passing the examination of the recipe, the migration test will be performed according the requirements of the respective guideline according to DIN EN 12873-1. The test is always performed
at 23 ± 2 °C. In addition the temperature ranges of 60 ± 2 °C and 85 ± 2 °C can be included. In the
test water the basic requirements and the additional requirements that are arising from the recipe
examination will be examined
The required test samples for the migration tests have to be agreed directly with the TZW.
Test-procedure and –duration
The test-duration depends basically on the completeness of the recipe disclosure. It has to be
considered, that often pre-suppliers have to be involved in the recipe review. In this case we also
conclude secrecy agreements with the pre-suppliers.
After the recipe review has been done the test-duration for the cold water and warm or hot water
tests is usually about 10-12 weeks.
