Kadina Croquet Club turns 100 accompanied by a brass band.
The Kadina, Wallaroo & Moonta Band (KWM) entertained the past
and present players assembled at the Kadina Croquet Club’s 100th
Birthday Celebrations on Thursday September 18th, 2014.
Bandmaster Linda Kinch, who is the Vice Captain of the Kadina
Croquet Club, said that the band was very pleased to be involved,
as five members of the band play Association Croquet and
represent each of the Croquet Clubs in the Copper Coast, namely
Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta.
Linda and her husband Malcolm, who is President of the Band,
emigrated from the UK seven years ago. Linda, who was a
professional violinist in the UK, started playing the Saxophone
after she emigrated and joined Malcolm, who is the Bass
Trombonist in the band. She became Band Master one and half
years ago and she is enjoying the experience very much. Malcolm
has also added Bass Tuba playing to his repertoire, as there was a
shortage of bass instruments in the band. Malcolm has also
started playing Association Croquet and joined his wife in the
teams this season. ‘We could never have imagined starting so
many new things in the UK’ Linda said. ‘We love living in Australia
and certainly agree that it is indeed “the lucky country.”’
Names of the band members who play croquet
Vaughan McWaters (Moonta), Ian Miller and Carole Dyson (Wallaroo)
and Linda and Malcolm (Kadina).
