On Wednesday, students showcased their creativity with Duct Tape Day. Various duct tape designs took shape as jewelry, hats and even clothing. Everyone was seeing double on Thursday with Twin Day. It is always a great day to be a Longhorn but Homecoming was an exceptional day. After a wonderful BBQ dinner prepared by the senior class, Longhorn fans were treated to the annual homecoming festivities. As the band played, the candidates were introduced. This year’s candidates for Homecoming Sweetheart and Hero were: Carsyn Allen & Chandler Freeman Rebecca Scott & Leo Ramirez Baylee Ritchey & John Neufeld The honor of the 2014 Homecoming Sweetheart went to Miss Baylee Ritchey. The Longhorns were struck with injuries and in the end fell short with a final score of 80-34. different stations. One of the stations was on water conservation. The kids learned how to lower the amount of water they use and that the common house hold uses 200 gallons of water per day. The next station was on cotton farming. The students learned how to pick cotton, and they even toured a module truck. They then moved on to the 3rd and 4th stations where they learned how food is colored and processed. At the 5th station the whole class talked to a game warden about his job. They learned that a game warden helps protect wildlife and enforces the laws of hunting. The last station was most of the kids’ favorite one. They talked to a group of people about peanut farming and even made their own peanut butter to eat. It was a wonderful day and the class learned a lot while having fun. STUDENTS GATHER IN PRAYER By: Baylee Ritchey See You At The Pole was first organized in 1990 when schools all over the United States gathered around their flag pole outside of their school at 7:00 a.m. to pray. For many years, the students of Loop ISD have participated in this event. Twenty-three students met on Wednesday, September 24, at 7:00 a.m. and had a fantastic time singing and praying for our nation, school, family and friends. John Neufeld and Sarah Ottaberry shared devotionals with the students. The students then enjoyed doughnuts and juice as they joined in fellowship. What a positive way to start the day! The organization focuses on serving communities by encouraging people to make a difference. FOOTBALL NEWS By: Coach Donnell The month of September has had its ups and downs for the Longhorn football team. They started off the month with a decisive victory at Wellman defeating the Wildcats 57 to 12. Then came the rain, and an O’Donnell team that had revenge on its mind. The Longhorns defeated the Eagles last year in the third quarter by 45 points (mercy rule). September 12th in the rain and mud we had a different outcome as O’Donnell defeated the Horns 77-31. One of the signs of a good team is how it handles adversity. After a loss, is the team able to put it behind and focus to bounce back the next week? The Loop Longhorns were able to do just that when they defeated the Lorenzo Hornets 70-57 on September 19th. The Homecoming game against Whitharrel on September 26th was an exciting contest between two outstanding teams. Unfortunately, the Longhorns came up short with a loss of 80-34.
