The Pasta Eater
By Luca Giordano
~ In the 17th century
rich people carried a
fork when they dined
out, but its use spread
very slowly from Italy
and came into
common use only
about 1750. So if King
Louis XIV could eat
chicken stew with his
fingers without
spilling it, how can we
fault this working man
for enjoying his pasta
without a fork?

All members of winning chaperone group receive prize while in Italy ! Mrs. Sweetsir is final arbiter and
determines prize (so make sure your photos of her are especially flattering!)

List of Daily Chaperones
Chaperones serve as your parents away from home, making decisions as though you were their child.
YOBC members are expected to comply with their guidelines at all times. Any problems you encounter
should be discussed with your chaperones. Never try to handle difficult situations or problems without
their help. Use the following lists to identify your group and chaperones each day.

PLAY MUSIC
Harmony in Motion
While on tour YOBC ran into 6 Italian students playing in a local orchestra who wanted to
demonstrate to YOBC staff Italian folk instruments. Aldo, Bella, Gianna, Leonardo, Rocco and
Rosa each play 1 of the following instruments: Mandolin, Accordion, Tamburini,
Scacciapensieri, Quartara and Zampogna. They come to their demonstrations by Hot air
Balloon, Hoverboard (a countergrav skateboard), Johnny Quest Jet Pack, Vespa, unicycle and
motorcycle with sidecar. Interested staff included both Sweetsirs, Mr. Loughran, Mr.
D'Alecandro, Ms. Claudin and Ms. Mitchell. Use the following clues to help decipher who was
with which staff member, their instrument and their method of transportation.
1. The Sweetsirs were shown instruments by students of opposite gender
2. Rosa, Aldo and the person who play mandolin use wheeled transport
3. Leonardo, the tamburini player and the hot air balloonist live together
4. Bella does not play a mouth powered instrument
5. Gianna demonstrates to a male staff member and plays a mouth powered instrument
6. Rocco and Leonardo play neither mandolin or quartara
7. After the show Mr. Loughran went for a ride in his demonstators sidecar
8. Aldo and Rosa play mouth powered instruments
9. Bella won't ride in motorized transportation
10. Ms. Claudin was shown the zampogna but not by Rosa
11. The accordion player wanted to ride a hoverboard and show their instrument to Ms
Mitchell but got neither preference
12. The scacciapensieri player, Gianna and Mr. Sweetsir got ice cream after the
demonstration. Mrs. Sweetsir did not approve of the ice cream!
