Technical Data Sheet Polyester Laminating Resin LSE Code: R120 Product Description Polyester Laminating Resin LSE (R120) is an orthophthalic based resin, specifically designed for hand and spray techniques. Ideal for use as a general purpose resin on boat hulls, septic tank, water tanks and motor homes. R120 has a low peak exothermic temperature and low shrinkage rate. R120 has been certified by Lloyds Register for marine use, and has low styrene emissions that will ease workability in a workshop or confined space area. Distinguished Characteristics Excellent physical properties Low shrinkage rate Good wet out and air release Early development of barcol hardness No gel time drift Properties of Liquid Resin Specific gravity Viscosity Thix- index Acid value Volatile content Gel time Time to peak Peak Ex.temp Units Spec 25C poise/25℃ mg-KOH/g % min. min. It is recommended that electronic scales or measuring syringe be used. It is extremely important that the resin and catalyst are thoroughly mixed, paying special attention to the sides and bottom of the mixing container. The optimum addition rate for the catalyst is 1.0% to 2.5% of the resin weight. Using levels below this can result in slow or delayed cure. At no time should the catalyst be allowed to drop below 1.00% of the resin weight as this could cause permanent under-cure. Trojan Fibreglass recommends that all Polyester and Vinylester Resins be catalysed at a ratio of 2%. Eg: 150gm (Resin) : 3gm (Catalyst) Health and Safety Skin contact should be avoided by wearing protective gloves. Trojan Fibreglass recommends the use of disposable gloves for most applications. The use of barrier creams is not recommended, but to preserve skin conditions a moisturising cream should be used after washing. Overalls or other protective clothing should be worn when mixing, laminating or sanding. Contaminated clothing should be thoroughly cleaned before use. Eye protection should be worn at all times when mixing, laminating, or sanding. If eye contacted occurs, hold the eye lid open and seek medical attention. Ensure adequate ventilation in work areas. Respiratory protection should be worn at all times when using fibreglass products. If skin becomes contaminated, then the area concerned should be immediately cleaned and washed with warm soapy water. It is best to avoid using solvents to clean resin off the skin. For more health and safety procedures, it is recommended that the material safety data sheet should be consulted at all times. Transport and Storage The resins and catalyst should be kept in securely closed containers during transport and storage. Any accidental spillage should be soaked up with sand, sawdust, or absorbent material. The area should be washed clean. Adequate long term storage conditions for both resins and hardeners will result in shelf lives of 3-6 months. Storage should be in a warm dry place out of direct sun light, and protected from frost. The temperature should be between 10 and 25 degrees C. Containers should be firmly closed.
