Fund Manager’s Report
•
The market momentum got disrupted in November with the announcement of the presidential election. ASPI declined
2.36% during the month while S&P SL 20 fell 2.84%. We expect the volatility to continue with the investors keeping a
close eye on the upcoming election.
•
Despite the volatility in the equity markets, the overall macro outlook for Sri Lanka continues to be stable. At the
auctions held during the month, 1 year interest rate continued to remain stable at 6.00%.
•
Point to point inflation continue to slow down with November reporting +1.5% though MoM inflation accelerated to
+0.1% up from -1.6%. The Food and Beverage (F&B) segment in the basket increased by +0.6% MoM while
recording a YoY growth of 4.9% during the month. Core inflation increased by +0.11% MoM, for the second
consecutive month.
•
Though we are mindful of possible market volatility in the near term, we continue to remain bullish on equities given
the low interest rate regime coupled with attractive valuations on select counters. With this in mind, we continue to
increase the overall equity allocations in the Growth and Volatile funds, by making use market weaknesses.
