LEN LYE CENTRE PROGRESS UPDATE Taking shape and on target The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre building project is taking shape and on target to open mid-2015. With 14 metre-high concrete walls erected, the Len Lye Centre on the corner of Queen and Devon St is now at its highest point. A steel skeleton is emerging to give structure to interior gallery walls and the archive and cinema now have floors, walls and ceilings. The steel structure will also provide the support needed for the 14 metre-high, wavy exterior pre-cast concrete panels from which the outer stainless steel facade will hang. Earthquake strengthening work on the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery building has begun, as well as the installation of a new climate control system, necessary to ensure the building maintains museum level status. Project Director - Len Lye Centre Gaye Batty FUNDRAISING UPDATE Construction target met, fundraising continues A recent grant from the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board of $2.695 million for the Len Lye Centre, ensures that the $10m budget for constructing the centre plus $1.5m for fit-out of both the centre and its cinema has been met.
