The Cirpack Local Exchange Node from Thomson is the ideal packaged
solution for offering advanced voice services over IP and legacy protocols
to up to 10,000 subscribers and interconnecting your network to the PSTN.
The Cirpack Local Exchange Node (LEN)
from Thomson is a compact, powerful
and cost effective solution for primary
line local loop telephony operators.
Including Cirpack flexible routing and
SS7 features, the “one-box-does-it-all”
approach allows carriers to benefit from
Cirpack’experience with no compromise
on availability and optimized footprint.
From TDM to NGN to IMS
The Cirpack platform is a unique
softswitch and gateway solution designed
to replicate the features of legacy voice
switches. It enables existing TDM
telephony services and equipment to be
retained in Next Generation Networks
(NGN), allowing service providers
to expand their legacy PSTN while
simultaneously delivering VoIP services
and starting a migration to IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS) architectures.
Easily launch a successful Voice
offer
The Cirpack LEN is a feature-rich solution
for residential subscribers (Call Forward,
Call Waiting, Do not Disturb…) and IP
Centrex services (Call Supervision,
Transfer, Filtering, Hunting Groups…)
for the enterprise market. Up to 10,000
subscribers can benefit from these
value-added services.
Primary line voice services over any
legacy or broadband local loop are
natively supported.
allow complex transit infrastructures
to be deployed using both TDM and IP
trunking.
Rely on Thomson expertise
The Cirpack LEN offers the same service
portfolio as the Cirpack softswitch
platform that is currently used in largest
VoIP deployments in Europe. It has
demonstrated carrier-grade reliability,
delivering primary line telephony
services across very large and complex
infrastructures.
Powerful Trunking
Relying on embedded Cirpack media and
signalling gateways, the Cirpack LEN
enables seamless inter working between
the operator’s IP infrastructure and the
PSTN. Multi-flavored SS7 variants and
advanced voice routing mechanisms

LEN Basic Package
The Cirpack Local Exchange Node is a
comprehensive solution for launching
Voice-over-IP services based on
Cirpack High Velocity Softswitch (HVS)
with Class-5 /IP Centrex software
and customer database. The LEN
is compatible with SIP and MGCP
protocols to deliver primary line
telephony services over broadband
infrastructures of any kind and can
deliver all POTS and ISDN services
over v5.2 access networks and is also
compatible with SIP. In addition, the
Cirpack HVS supports innovative fixedmobile convergence features for both
residential and business applications.
includes SIP Access Controller - our
Access Session Border Controller (SBC)
solution - to control SIP registering and
secure access to the core network,
while the Message Waiting Indication
(MWI) application ensures that the
user is notified when they have a
new message on their voicemail. Full
redundancy of every element is achieved
through a cluster architecture of active/
standby servers.
The operator can provision up 10,000
residential users and 2,500 IP Centrex
on SIP, MGCP, ISDN or V5.2 access.
Managed by the Class-4 software, two
PTG (Public Telephony Gateway) media
gateways, each with 16 E1 interfaces,
For SIP deployments, the Cirpack LEN
are included. The PTGs supplied are
interface boards specially designed for
IBM BladeCenters. Embedded DSP
mezzanine are available for media
processing (tones, announcements, echo
cancellation, compression).
Operators can upgrade the LEN to
the large model configuration version
of the Cirpack platform when further
subscriber capacity is required. This
platform can handle several million call
attempts per second (BHCA) and up to
264,000 residential subscribers, meeting
operators’ demands for large and
scalable voice infrastructures.

Number Portability Application
Additional Protocols
For the conversion of ported numbers,
the Cirpack portability application can
be easily added. The LEN’s portability
solution can manage up to 750,000
entries. Larger configurations can be
supported with an additional server.
To control H.248 MSAN (Multi-Service
Access Node), the H.248 signalling
software can be embedded in the
LEN. Furthermore, for IN (Intelligent
Networks) services and GMSC
functions, INAP and MAP protocols are
also part of Cirpack offer. Eventually,
additionally to SIP and ISUP, R2 protocol
can be added for interconnections. All
these protocols can be activated through
additional licenses.
Media Proxy
The Cirpack Media Proxy is a network
access and border product used to
route RTP traffic between an operator’s
network and other networks. It solves
topology hiding, NAT (Network Address
Translation), and firewall issues. If
needed, in addition to the LEN, standalone media proxies can also be supplied.
Embedded Media Services
Cirpack gateways from Thomson offer
much-needed DSP power for media
stream handling: multiparty voice
conferencing, fax transmission over IP,
multilingual network announcements,
customized ring-back tones, and media
replication for lawful intercept as
required for primary line services using
VoIP technology. A spare slot is available
on PTG to host additional DSP resources
for these applications, depending on
operator’s design.
VoiceMail, Prepaid, Personalized
Ring Back Tones, IVR
For this type of value-added services,
Thomson also offers high-performance
solutions fully interoperable with the
LEN package.
