Spring 2014 Newsletter
Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this Spring Newsletter!
It’s been my privilege to have been asked to serve as Chapter President for 2014. My first comment is to thank our Past Chapter Presidents for their work to
promote APWA and especially to our Immediate Past President, Harold Bowers, for his support and guidance as I work into my term as 2014 President.
Our goals for this year are spelled out on paper, but most importantly for you, are to continue and increase our educational programs to show everyone in Public
Works why it makes sense to be a APWA Member. Sure, we want to grow our membership but that isn’t going to happen unless we can show the value of not
only your purchase of a lunch at the branch meetings, but also the investment of your valuable time and energy to be a part of this organization.
If you haven’t been to your Branch meeting lately, you are really missing an opportunity to learn about the profession and especially share information about your
job with your peers.
As a National APWA Member, you can take advantage of the hundreds of hours of up-to-date training videos in the free “Members Library” on the APWA website,
www.apwa.net
This year marks the 50th for our Chapter. Fifty years of Public Works Professionals meeting to discuss our concerns and successes in Central Pennsylvania. We plan
on celebrating our anniversary at the Annual Symposium, September 18, at Lower Paxton Township. Send me a photo of your OLDEST, WORKING AND STILL IN
USE PIECE OF MOVING EQUIPMENT. We plan to post those photos and share stories about them at the Symposium. Heck, you could even win a prize if your
photo is selected as the most interesting!
As I always say.. this is YOUR organization! Take advantage of ALL we offer this year.

PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
PROCLAMATION
http://www.apwa.net/discover/NationalPublic-Works-Week/NPWW-proclamations
Our Governor has officially proclaimed May
18-24, 2014, as Public Works Week in
Pennsylvania.
YOU ARE APPRECIATED and recognized for
your work as indicated on the Proclamation.
The
hard
working
Public
Works
professionals in Pennsylvania deserve
EXTRA recognition this year as it was YOU
who kept things up and running during a
difficult winter. BUT, we all know that is
part of the job; the part everyone sees.
Thanks to ALL Public Works for doing the
easily visible work and the work some take
for granted. You are to be commended!

Our Chapter participated in the
92nd Annual Pennsylvania State
Association of Township Supervisors
Conference, held April 13-15 at the
Hershey Lodge.
We want to thank our members
who manned the booth during the
show.
Over 3,700 were in attendance at
the conference and trade show.
Our booth had a great visual spot,
located right inside the main
entrance doors to the Lodge's
convention center.
Our purpose was to promote what
we do as a Chapter with an
emphasis on our very active
Branches!
