 The TSS is not an evaluation
 Your site’s results will not be published
 Validity of the TSS is based on fidelity to the model
 Trust the training and the guidance document
 Inaccurate ratings don’t help anyone & hurt the system
 The TSS is a snapshot of a student’s development
 At/near the end of preschool
 Some students may “get it” later; that’s OK 
 Mark in pencil if you’re unsure
Summit County Transition Skills Summary 2014
▶Use the TSS Guidance Document
 Defines behaviors & skills in the 5 domains
 Provides examples on how to rate skills as
 “Most of the Time,” “Developing,” or “Not at this Time”
 Examples are for guidance only
 Not intended to exclude other possibilities.
 Promotes consistency
 Common agreement & understanding among preschools
 Common communication with parents
Summit County Transition Skills Summary 2014

16 FOR SUCCESS
Our thanks go out to PNC Bank, our
sponsor for the distribution of
these cards. Each preschool will
have 1 card for the family of each
child enrolled in the TSS process.
This is a great way to inform
parents about the 16 skills students
need to develop in order to begin
kindergarten on track for success.
