Automotive Technology
Our Automotive Technology program would like to
thank the Minnedosa Valley Cruizers Car Club for
their very generous gift of some basic hand tools
which will be used by the students of our program.
The car club normally gives charity to organizations
who are impacting our community in positive and
healthy ways and having our program selected as
one of these groups is an honour.
Minnedosa Collegiate appreciates the encouragement received from the Minnedosa Valley Cruizers
Car Club.
Thank You.

MCI SCHOOL CLOTHING
"Can I order a school jacket?" "Can I get a soccer hoodie?"
The answer to both of these questions is YES! MCI has changed what types of school clothing are available to
order. Students can order MCI jackets and recognize the activities they participate in by placing the names on
the sleeve. Track jackets and a heavier jacket are both available. This change in practice means that activity specific jackets are not available to order (eg. a volleyball jacket). Both cost and school pride were considerations in this change in practice. While all types of school clothing are available for purchase through the
student group called the Credit Union Youth Board, MCI wants to avoid having many expensive items that
students may feel pressure to purchase. The CUYB will always balance quality and cost when pricing items to
order. All school clothing (from tshirts to jackets) is optional for purchase and will never be required to be
part of a team or club. Likewise, students will never be required to purchase a uniform to wear in athletic
competition. Uniforms will be purchased and provided by the school. Mrs. Barrett is the staff contact for the
Credit Union Youth Board.

The Chancellors hosted their highschool hockey tournament the weekend of Nov 14-16 with teams from

C.H.A.N.G.E.
This year’s CHANGE group, Citizens Helping All Nations Grow Equally, has had a busy start to the year. Students have had a bake sale in every month – with the proceeds going to various charities. Students helped
the Rotary Club sell their grocery grab tickets and were there to set up for the Magic Show. On Halloween,
students went trick-or-treating for canned goods to stock the Minnedosa Food Cupboard with 235 food
items. In the school spirit, CHANGE is supporting school dances by decorating the Halloween Dance and
Christmas Dance. On Friday, November 14, CHANGE held a puck-toss at the Chancellor Hockey Tournament
and raised $50. We are hoping to connect with the Minnedosa Christmas Cheer Board to assist them in
achieving their goals this holiday season. The next CHANGE meetings are Monday, November 24th after
school, Monday, December 1st at lunch, Monday, December 8th after school, and Monday, December 15th at
lunch.

JV Girls Volleyball
The JV Girl's volleyball wrapped up their season on Nov.
7. The girls exemplified school spirit at our league
games and at tournaments. The team worked hard at
every practice and it was a pleasure to see the growth in
their skill level over the past two months. Bus trips and
the stops for "snacks" will always be remembered; where
do they put all that food?!
Teens Against Distracted Driving has elected a dynamic
group of students to lead us through 2014-2015 at
MCI. Co-Presidents are Vicky Evenson and Sarah Ford,
Vice President is Veronica Fulford, Co-Secretaries are
Talise Merke and Jessica Saler, Treasurer is Daniel
Vasquez and Education Chairs are Kirstin Surovy and
Tanner Bilcowski. Events that we are planning before
Christmas include our annual Christmas Wreath Sale,
candy cane delivery, and Mocktail Bar at the MCI
Christmas Dance. Our group is dedicated to keeping
our students, families and friends safe from preventable
accidents. Stay safe this winter whether you are a driver
or passenger, whether you are in a vehicle or on a snow
machine.

Greetings from the Career Preparation & Exploration Program!
The school year is flying by and our students have been busy out in the community discovering their career interests. Our Grade 11 students went out on their work experiences
on October 22 & 23. We had over 40 employers host 46 students across the two days.
Each student had the opportunity to ask questions to their supervisors and we received a
lot of positive feedback. One employer who hosted three of our students reported back
that “the three gentlemen were very well behaved, inquisitive and respectful. I enjoyed
my time spent with them.”
September 30th we were visited by Safe Workers of Tomorrow who presented to the
Grade 9’s in the afternoon. They handed out safety handbooks and educated our students on how to be safe in the
workplace, what their rights are as employees, and how to report an injury at the workplace.
November 5th marked the 20th anniversary of the national Take Our Kids to Work Day program. All of the Grade 9
students participated in this which gave them their first taste of what to expect in the work force. We would like to
send a special thank you out to all the parents, community members and businesses that welcomed our students into
their work environment for this event. Grade 9’s were able to gain a deeper appreciation for the work that is being
done in our community.
We can’t forget about our Grade 10 students! They went out on their first work experience on November 17 th & 18th.
We again had over 40 employers welcome our students to their work place for these two days. Grade 10’s had a really positive experience and were able to participate in some fun activities including: giving an ear tattoo to a cat, hand
paraffin treatments, college & university tours.
Grade 10’s will be going out on their second placements on March 18 & 19 while Grade 11’s will go out again April
22 & 23.
Also as our second semester comes creeping up on us, I would encourage you to contact me if you are interested in
learning more about the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP). Any Grade 11 or 12 students hoping to do
HSAP in second semester need to come see me no later than January so we can ensure all paperwork is filled out and
sent away.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the Career Prep program and/or HSAP please contact me at
[email protected] or by phone 204.867.2794 ext 260 (Minnedosa) or 204.570.2071 (cell).
Thank you and I hope you have a happy and safe holiday season!

School Bus Cancellations
R.R.S.D administration monitors winter weather conditions and makes decision to run or cancel school bus service
on a daily basis when required. This process includes the analysis of local forecasts, wind chill values, road conditions, and information available from area contact persons.
The School Division has adopted a wind chill value of –47 degrees Celsius as a reference point that corresponds
closely with the former 2300 watts. Although serious consideration is given to the cancellation of buses at this temperature, actual outside temperature is also considered prior to declaring a cancellation.
When the Division deems that weather conditions are not favorable for school bus transportation, school buses will
be cancelled and communicated to parents and students as follows:
1. Division wide cancellation of bus service will be announced on local radio stations by 7:30 a.m. Parents will not
be contacted personally.
2. If bus service is cancelled in specific areas but not for all routes in the division, bus drivers will contact each parent to advise them of the cancellation for their specific route. Buses cancelled in the morning due to weather, will
not operate in the afternoon.
Parents are encouraged to ensure their children are properly dressed for winter travel conditions and re ready to board
the bus when it arrives. R.R. S.D. will respect a parent’s decision to keep their children off the bus on days when
they feel weather or road conditions are in question.
For more information contact:
Daryl Tesarowski, Transportation Supervisor at 867-2754 extension 235.
