Oaks Day by Sarah Chaston
On Thursday the 6th of November was Bourchier Cup. We had fashions on the field, yabbie races,
fill the bucket relay and drop the counter. The Grade 6 winners for the Fashion on the field
were Gemma Ritchie and Damien Loader. The crazy hat comp was won by Amy Gardner.
The fill the bucket relay was won by SGB. This is one of the most enjoyable days you will have
in grade 5 and 6. Most people took the trouble to dress up and everyone enjoyed the day.

2015, and will spend time with their new class.

Dear Parents
NEWS AROUND THE SCHOOL
If you have any library books, take home books school

return them, no question asked we just want any BSPS
property returned.
The Song Room
On Monday our students performed at Eastbank as a
part of Shepparton Inter Harmony Festival.
The Song Rooms vision is that all Australian children
have the opportunity to participate in music and the arts
to enhance their education, personal development and
community involvement, giving them the best possible
start in life.
Participation in this project has complemented our
performing arts program. One grade 3 class and the 4
and 5 classes have been involved in the song room
program.
On Monday classes performed at Eastbank in the mass
choir and grade items. It was great to see many of our
parents attending.
Loretta Shannon, the Song room music practioner, has
had a significant impact of our students and their
exposure to many forms of music. See page 5 of this
newsletter for photos.
Junior Sleep over
Last week was out annual sleep over, and most of the
children, if not the teachers, got some rest and by Friday
all were exhausted. The sleep over is a part of our
whole school camping program and often the first
opportunity for many children to experience sleeping
away from the family home. They all loved having their
friends with them as they visited kids town, giggle and
wiggle and star bowl and especially enjoyed the
breakfast on Friday morning .
Our thanks to the parents who helped with the
sleepover and especially to the teachers who ensured
that all of the children had a great time
EMA - 2015
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is no longer
available to Pension and Healthcare Card Holders from
2015 onward as the Government has cancelled this
funding.
Parents will be responsible to pay all school fees.
Eligible families will still receive the School Kids Bonus
that is paid direct into your bank account around the first
week of January and July.
The current Government has advised that this funding
will continue until 2016.
Transition
The next transition session for our 2015 preps is
tomorrow, Friday 28th at 2.15pm in the school hall.
On Tuesday the 9th of December our 2015 preps will
be at school for the final transition event. Thank you to
all of the families who participated in this program. The
transition program has provided a wonderful start to all
children’s educational experiences.
An enormous amount of work goes into the transition
program from many of our staff and thanks are
extended to them for their support, enthusiasm and
energy.
School Band
Peter Arnold is our band master and provides the most
inexpensive music lessons that could be offered. The
value of learning a musical instrument is enormous. It
certainly takes a lot perseverance and concentration to
master playing an instrument however these are exactly
the skills that students need to be successful. Band
tuition is offered to grade 4/5/and 6. He has conducted
an aptitude test with the grade 2 students and will be
contacting families with the offer of a place in the band
Every child, every day ready for learning.
This is our catch phrase.
 Has your child had breakfast?
 Has your child got a clean school uniform ready
to wear?
 Has your child go a healthy lunch?
 Be at school by 8:45am. If a child is late for
school they interrupt the classroom, take longer
to settle to work and can often feel anxious
Quote: One thing is fact: if you worry about
tomorrow, tomorrow comes. If you don’t worry
about tomorrow, tomorrow comes.
Remember to smile and enjoy your week!

On Tuesday 11th November all the Grade 3s went on an excursion around Shepparton to learn about the past and
present times. First we went to one of the original settler’s farms where Sherbourne Sheppard’s hut and a family
cemetery are. Shepparton is named after Sherbourne Sheppard. Three women from the Fraser family are buried near
the river.
Then we went to the Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorials – it was very interesting to pay respect to all
the soldiers.
We had playlunch in the Queen’s Gardens and lunch in Monash Park near the cows.
We walked around the main streets and parks and saw old signs, statues and monuments built after people who lived
in Shepparton a long time ago. We also walked along part of the original Goulburn River course.
We climbed the Telstra Tower – it was very high (77 metres). We went to the Museum where we saw lots of old
things like an old washing machine, telephones, typewriters, bicycles and clothes. We saw the old printing press and
old dresses and lots more.
We had a really fun day!

SHEPPARTON INTERHARMONY FESTIVAL
th
On Monday 24 November students from SGD, SKM, SRG, MAW, MEW, MMP, MMB and MJO went to Eastbank to
perform as part of the InterHarmony Festival. This saw schools from right across the Goulburn Valley perform different
songs from around the world. This was put together by the people from the Song Room, a program that our school has
been taking part in over the last semester. The day was a huge success with our students putting on a great show with lots
of singing and dancing.
Thank you to all of the classroom teachers for making this a great day and to Loretta Shannon our amazing Song Room
teacher for all of your hard work.
