1.
HISTORY:
TRO Branch in this Division has become functional in the year 1989. New Delhi
– Madras Grand Trunk express (2616 Up) was worked with AC electric
locomotive on 11.09.1989 from Nagpur to Madras which was the first Mail
Express train run on Ac traction on Nagpur Division.

Trip Shed/Ajni:
The division is having Trip Shed at Ajni headed by Senior Section Engineer. In
addition to this, skeleton maintenance staff is also available at Ballarshah and
Nagpur, being interchanging points.
3.3
Drivers Training Center (DTC)/Ajni:
The Driver’s Training Center at Ajni is conducting various training courses to
enhance the safety standards, quality of driving technique and trouble shooting
knowledge of AC loco Running staff. Recently a new training module ‘GYAN
KASAUTI’ which was introduced at S.C.RLY has been also introduced in our
division.

Specific Energy Consumption:
SEC has been reduced from 8.50 to 7.41 up to May’14 as compared with the
same period of the previous year i.e. a reduction of 12.82 %.

Stalling of Trains

Action Initiated:

During monsoon “Monsoon Mantras” have been followed by all train running
staff.
Improved packing of track at all points & crossings at WR
yard resulted into reduction of stalling in CHJC – WR
section.
Admitting trains on main line at 30 Kmph instead of yard
at WR.
A meeting with Loco Inspectors was organized on
10.06.2014 regarding prevention of stalling. Where it was
decided to counsel all LPs as per circulated Loco Pilot
Bulletin No. 194 & 195 also pictorial gradient chart of
stalling prone section.
A pictorial flex board of critical stalling prone section displayed at lobbies and
LIs deputed round the clock to upgrade knowledge how to negotiate on
gradients.

Pre-intimation / Warning (stalling) boards for LPs at stalling prone locations
have been erected to pre-warn the LPs before entering graded section.
 Increase in speed from 60 to 70 KMPH of Sumo rake in following sections in
2 – 3 Kms in length for achieving attacking speed to negotiate the gradient.


Division has also identified following block sections for increase of attacking
speed of SUMO (Box’N’/ Box’N’/HL) rakes from existing 60 kmph to 70 kmph
in the stretches having 60 Kg. rails as shown below. (Proposal has been sent
to GM/CR/NGP by DRM/NGP vide L. No. NGP / G.293/TRO dtd. 21.10.2013.

Neutral section at KM No. 876/18-20 between AMF- JKR and KM No.
830/26 between GDYA-DHQ down direction to be shifted. Proposal has
been sent to TRD vide this office L. No. NGP/TRO/Genl-22 dtd. 14.06.13 and
estimate received for the work.
Correction required in load table of WTT 98 is sent to HQ vide L.NO.
NGP/TRO/EST/28A on dated 02.06.14.
MEASURES TAKEN FOR SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT
Operation:

A pocket size pamphlet - "MONSOON MANTRAS" was
prepared for guiding the staff concerned with train
operation to prevent stalling of loaded goods trains in
critical sections during monsoon and distributed to
supervisors of all departments and to all goods loco
pilots.

A pamphlet viz. 'Operation 50+' was issued to all staff
concerned with train operation to achieve average speed of
50+ Kmph of Millennium and Container trains.

Dynamic Dossier of LPs for performance category has been
introduced as Platinum, Gold and Silver.

Data generation for wages purpose through CMS is being
monitored.

Use of WAG-9 loco in place of WAG-7 loco as banker in ghat section.
Energy Conservation:
 A pocket sized pamphlet titled "ऊर्जा संरक्षण मंत्र" was
published for all running staff & all concerned staff.
 Prepared stickers to educate Loco Pilots to use regenerative
brake to the maximum possible extent in 3 phase locos by
which not only 20 - 30% electricity regenerated but also
reduce the wheel shelling in coaches. These stickers are
pasted in all 3 phase locos plying over the division.
 Duties of Sectioin Controllers regarding Energy Conservation
have been displayed in control office, LPs/LIs in lobbies & running rooms &
supervisory staff.
 “Green Card & White card” has been introduced for LPs, to
record energy generation / consumption of 3 phase locos &
consumption of conventional locos. Data collected through
‘Green Cards & White Cards’ in the month of May has
revealed that 17.43% energy is regenerated in freight trains
and 20.17 % in coaching trains.
 Star rating of best energy saver for loco pilots has been started and displayed at
Lobbies to encourage the staff, Loco pilots are categorised as per their
contribution in energy saving i.e.
 5 star (saves 30% and above)
 4 star (saves 20% - 29%)
 3 star (saves 10% - 19%)
 2 star (saves 5% - 9%)
 1 star (saves 1% - 4%)
 Trip Ration in KWH for various types of Loco, Load and
Section combinations have been prepared and
distributed to loco pilots to save energy by improving
driving technique.
 Best energy conservators are being rewarded at divisional level by DRM to
motivate the staff.
Running Room & Lobbies:

Complete
management
of
Nagpur,
Ballarshah, Majri & Amla running rooms
have been outsourced. As a result 27 posts
of running room have been rendered surplus
and surrendered.

Subsidized meal facility to all running
staff has been made available in all
running rooms of this division.


with- New facelift of

area,
Kuti,
Yoga
Garden
umbrella, fountain, gym ,washing machine, Library, garden lights, rain water
harvesting LED display of safety and troubleshooting aids. Solar geysers are
also being provided and ISO 9001:2008

complete
management
services is underway.

Nagpur lobby is upgraded with more seating
area for healthy environment.
A canteen
“JAYAKA” managed by running staff is
started in Nagpur lobby.

All running rooms have been provided
reception desk.

Computerized check-in & check-out facility
has been introduced in all running room of
Nagpur Division. It has helped in identifying
vacant beds as well as accountal for subsidized meal.





All running rooms are provided with gym equipment.
Washing machines & Micro wave oven have been provided at all running rooms.
Drop box is provided in lobby to receive PASS / PTO applications of running staff
and deliver passes in lobby itself.
Out sourcing the activities of loading & unloading of loco pilot & guards line
boxes has been implemented in division.
LED Monitor has been provided in all Lobbies and Running Rooms for visual
display of locomotive information, trouble shooting and safety related items.

SPAD counseling:
 A pocket sized pamphlet titled “laj{kk&ea=” was
published as a case study for all running staff regarding signal
passing at danger.
 Family members of running
staff were counseled about the
consequences of SPAD and
importance of rest at home in prevention at NGP
on 09.04.14. Approx. 53 family
members

counseled about their role in

Operation Efficiency:


Three multiple bankers introduced against 1 single + 2 multiple bankers in TEO
- CCD ghat section – resulted in the improvement of average speed from 23 to
34 Kmph and increase in sectional capacity, also improvement in 10 hrs
performances due to reduction in detention for MU banker.
Speed of M/E trains in the ghat sections of MJY – DHQ & CCD – TEO while
descending the ghat increased from 60 Kmph to 75 Kmph. Two minutes gain in
the running time per train has been noticed during these trials.
 WAG-9 loco as Banker Engine in DHQ-MJY-DHQ section is being carried out
and found that 675 to 700 units are being generated in each trip while
descending the ghat up to 3500 T load (WAG7 single loco assists only 2500T).
 Working of DPWCS fitted locos at TEO -CCD-TEO ghat section as banker and
at GGS coal circuit found satisfactory.
 Complete management of all Running Rooms has been outsourced and
subsidized meal introduced. Which has resulted in more satisfaction and hassle


of carrying ration by running staff in eliminated.
AMF & NGP running rooms were given best maintained running rooms shield in
the year 2010 and 2013 respectively. Also these were selected in best 5 running
rooms at Railway Board level in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Previous year BPQ
(Tapti) running room is being offered for contest by division in railway board
level.
TRO has bagged shield for best maintained Nagpur lobby in the year 2013-14.
Manpower Planning and Cost control:





48 Call boys surrendered after introduction of CUG Sims resulted in saving
of Rs 1.114 crores per year after deducting payment of CUG bill to running
staff.
99 Box boys surrendered after introduction of outsourcing of line box loading /
unloading resulted in saving of Rs 2.67 crores per year after deducting contract
bill.
After outsourcing of BPQ (Tapti & Godavari), NGP (Triveni) and AMF
(Narmada) running room with subsidized meal. 56 running room staff have
been surrendered resulting in saving of Rs 33.02 Lacs per year after
deducting contract bill.
Two posts of Driver Instructor created and process of selection is going on.
6 posts of LIs filled up and 12 additional posts of LIs also created and process of
selection is going on.
