Dear Randall Families:
Spring break is over and I hope everyone had a relaxing one and
students have come back ready to finish out the school year.
The board is getting ready to finish out our year as well and plan
for next year. We are looking for volunteers who want to get
involved in our board as we are losing some of our eighth grade
parent volunteers. There are many positions that require very
little time and none of them are a huge time commitment—not
even President! We have a few positions still open for next year
so please get in contact with me at [email protected] if you are
interested. The Randall Board is a lot of fun and it is a great
way to know what is happening at Randall Middle School!
A huge thank you to Jennifer Heidt for writing and submitting
our PTSA Awards to the County Board.

Here is the important information for you to be
aware of in April:
1. Parents can go to myspot.sdhc.k12.fl.us to
be able to access Edsby, Guidmii and
MyPaymentPlus. The user name and
password is the same for Edsby or you can
activate a new account there with your
child’s student number and the last four
digits of their social security number.
2. The third quarter ends 3/27. Be sure to use
the new grading scale that was sent home
to figure out semester grades at the end of
the year.
3.Ms. Miller, 8th grade counselor, and Mr.
Eugene, 8th grade AVID teacher, and Ms.
Geer, reading coach, all took a group of 8th
grade AVID students to Newsome on 3/25 to
learn about their AVID program and the AVID
culture at Newsome.
4. The Turnaround Student for Randall for this
year is Olivia Hunt in 8th grade which is a
great honor since she has made great
strides academically and socially this year!
Ms. Miller introduced her at the celebration
breakfast at Blake HS on 4/2, and her
family attended and was very proud of her
accomplishments.
5. There is no school on 4/3 so enjoy your
time off with your family!
6. The Extended Learning Program will be
starting soon for 7th and 8th grade students
who haven’t passed a class. Information
will be given to those individuals, and it’s
very important that they attend these
tutoring sessions before school in order to
earn quality points or else they may be in
jeopardy of failing or having to retake the
classes on Florida Virtual School at home.
7. Third quarter report cards will be sent home
on 4/17, but you can access those grades on
Edsby sooner than that.
8. Conference Night is 4/30 from 5:00 to 7:00
pm and it’s first-come, first-served for those
of you who need to meet with teachers.
9. Honors Night will be on 5/5 at 6:00 pm in the
gym, and notices will be sent home for those
students who are getting an award.
10.Remember to “FISH” and participate in Fun
Fridays to show school spirit!
11.Please continue to check Edsby regularly to
help students keep up on assignments and
grades and to keep in contact with teachers.
Whenever there’s an issue or concern, the
first step is to discuss it with your student’s
teacher. It’s important for all students to
work hard and do their best until the last day
of school!
12.The 8th grade math teachers continue to
offer Algebra tutoring, so please contact
them for more information.
13.There are a lot of students who are taking
one or more classes on Florida Virtual School,
so please make sure they are all done with at
least three-quarters of it since we are in the
fourth quarter now. It’s very important that
all of these classes are completed by the last

day of school so that the students can be
promoted to the next grade level.
14.Here is the tentative testing schedule so you
can plan appointments around it:
a) 6th grade math FSA is the week of 4/13
b) 8th grade science FCAT is 4/17
c) 7th grade math FSA is the week of 4/20
d) Pre-Algebra FSA is 4/24 and 4/27 (Algebra
and Geometry students only take the EOC
and not the math FSA)
e) 6th grade reading FSA is 4/28 and 4/29
f) 7th grade reading FSA is 4/30 and 5/1
g) 8th grade reading FSA is 5/5 and 5/6
h) Geometry EOC is 5/7 and 5/8
i) Algebra EOC is the week of 5/11
j) 7th grade Civics EOC is the week of 5/18
k) Semester exams are the week of 6/1 and
they can’t be given any earlier than that.

Hillsborough County Public Schools Programs for English Language Learners Program Overview
Hillsborough County Public Schools serve over 45,000 students who speak more than 104
languages and represent approximately 200 countries. The program for English language
learners (ELL) is designed to meet their diverse linguistic, cultural, and academic needs.
Program Goals
1) To develop the students’ English language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking,
reading, writing and comprehension. 2) To ensure that English Language Learners continue to
develop and acquire skills and concepts in content area subjects while they are developing their
English language skills. 3) To encourage communication between schools and home that will
promote the educational success of ELL students. 4) To promote cultural awareness among
students and the community. Therefore, I will be assisting the ELL students with their diverse
linguistic, cultural and academic needs.
Program Services
Bilingual Psychological and Social Services
Native language psychological, social, and guidance services are provided to bilingual students
and their families.
Interpreters and Translators
Interpreters are utilized at district and school level parent and community meetings. They also
translate a
wide variety of district and school level forms dealing with everything from health and safety to
discipline and academics.

academic resources available to
parents of ELLs that promote active parent\ participation in the education of their children.

teachers to review, clarify, and reinforce academic skills. They also serve as a liaison for home/

ESOL Teachers and Resource Teachers
ESOL teachers utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and accommodations to
teach students to speak, read, and write in English to ensure academic instruction is

Congratulations to Alex Fullerton! His Reﬂections music composition entry titled, “Earth Harmony” received
an Award of Merit in the 2014-2015 Florida PTA Reﬂections program!
Reﬂections is the National PTA’s cornerstone arts program. Interested students are encouraged to reﬂect on a
speciﬁc theme and create original artwork in the categories of dance choreography, ﬁlm production, literature,
music composition, photography, and visual arts. Students of any grade or ability are welcome to participate.

For years, the Randall Area Youth Service Council, or RAYS Council, has been completing projects
and assignments related to life skills, service learning, and local issues, near or in their community.
The RAYS Council is based in Randall Middle School, as an elective. This particular class however,
has worked on many projects related to 9/11, Memorial Day, Support Our Troops, Great American
Teach In, Kick Butts Day, A Kids Place, and a local retirement home known as Patty’s House. This is
the final year the class will be available for students at Randall.
This year, the RAYS Council has been invited to NYLC, otherwise known as the National Youth
Leadership Conference. This conference is a huge honor for the RAYS council to be invited to, and is
very popular in Washington D.C., where the conference is held annually. It is estimated that only
about 1,400 people are invited each year, so it is an amazing experience for the RAYS Council to
be going attending. The conference is going to be held April 8th through the 11th.
