Dealing with contamination of soil, groundwater and sediment Developments in technologies, policies, concepts, regulation, management 1a. Assessment and monitoring • Suggested topics: Novel monitoring approaches, adaptive monitoring based on real time data, model driven, etc.), passive sampling, minimum- invasive techniques; direct push, geophysics, remote sensing, persistence of historical and emerging subsurface contaminations, from target/ non-target analysis to tox-tests and biological effects, molecular monitoring of microbial processes, in vitro tests, combination of in vitro tests and chemical analysis. 1b. Risk assessment and management • Suggested topics: • • • • Risk assessment and mitigation related to different source-path-receptor routes: Indoor air pollution from soil and groundwater pollution Impact of sites on soil, sediment and groundwater quality from local to catchment scale Linking subsurface activities to above ground risks (and vice versa), e.g. related to CO2 storage, exploration and exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbons such as shale gas, thermal energy, artificial recharge (water infiltration) Diffuse pollution, including emerging compounds, microplastics, salt water intrusion Cumulative risks. 1c. Remediation technologies and approaches • Suggested topics: In situ remediation, chemical- , biological-, thermal technics, phyto remediation; concentration vs. mass and flux reduction, green / sustainable remediation, carbonfootprint, new technologies for emerging compounds, cost-benefit analyses of contaminated soil remediation. 1d. Regional approaches for groundwater quality management Suggested topics: Multiple point sources in urban and rural systems, emerging pollutants (e.g. inorganic and organic, nanomaterials, PFOS, pharmaceuticals), fresh water depletion/salinization/salt water intrusion, microplastics, legal aspects, financial and organizational models for regional groundwater management. Theme 2. Soil, groundwater and sediment in the biobased, circular economy Reuse of contaminated land, soil, sediment and water Suggested topics: AquaConSoil Copenhagen 2015 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS & FOR FREE SESSIONS The Programme Committee invites cordially those who wish to contribute to the conference to submit an abstract for an oral presentation for the regular Thematic Sessions, a poster presentation or a proposal for a complete Free Session. Abstract and Free Session proposal submission will be online (open from Sep 2014), please see the conference webpage www.aquaconsoil.org. During online submission, please copy your abstract into the text box provided (max. 5,700 signs incl. spaces). Deadline for abstract submission: 30th November 2014 Authors will be informed about the abstract selection in February 2015. Authors of selected abstracts (talks and posters) will be invited to submit a paper for the conference proceedings. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION for a presentation in a regular Thematic Sessions Redevelopment of brownfields, redevelopment of mining areas, reuse of contaminated sediment, reuse of tailings from the mining industry, extraction of nutrients and metals etc. from landfills, sediment and groundwater (mining historical pollution), restoring organic carbon content in soil by reuse of residual streams ( e.g. sludge), the role of soil and sediment in nature based solutions (/eco-engineering). Oral presentations (15 min + 3 min of discussion) in Thematic Sessions; thematic sessions consist of 5 presentations. Please visit the website for the online submission form. Theme 3. Managing multiple functions of the subsurface Competing claims in the subsurface, new subsurface activities, interference Suggested topics: During a Poster Session, there will be ample time for discussion between poster presenters and the audience. Please visit the website for the online submission form. Shallow and deep geothermal energy systems, aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES), regional management of subsurface energy, management of deep subsurface activities (e.g. CO2-storage, oil/gas storage, waste storage, shale gas extraction, infiltration), ecosystem services based management, spatial planning of the subsurface. Theme 4. The role of the subsurface in climate change adaptation Suggested topics: Subsurface water storage for improving climate change resilience of industry, agriculture and other functions; green infrastructure, artificial soil systems (e.g. green roofs), adaptation measures by citizens and companies (e.g. green roofs, natural drainage), mitigation of salt water intrusion, availability of fresh water, reducing the urban heat island effect. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION for a poster presentation Poster presentations: Poster will be on display during all conference days. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FOR FULL FREE SESSION PROPOSALS The Programme Committee will also select proposals for complete sessions. The duration of a session is 90 minutes. The layout of the program of a session is free (e.g. it is possible to have more time for discussion). If you want to submit a proposal for a full session, please use our online submission form. The Programme Committee can only review complete forms. The form includes the following: • • • • • • Title of the session, Organizers of the session (names and affiliation), Contact person (name and contact details), To which ACS (sub)theme does the session link? Main idea of the session for the programme: explain per activity the content, such as topics, and the form – e.g. presentation, discussion by panel/audience etc. Names of presenters and titles of presentations.
