Today’s Tilt…. Beloit looks to finish off a four game road sweep Sunday afternoon. Righty Bobby Wahl, the 9th ranked
prospect in the A’s organization by Baseball America, matches up with righty Carlos Misell, who has pitched only two
innings in the past 10 days. Clinton has only 12 hits – four in each game – in 23 innings in the series, and has been
shutout twice in two days. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 CT at Ashford University Field.
Did That Really Happen, take two… Down 17-1 after five innings in Burlington, Clinton looked to be on the wrong end of
a blowout to end their most recent road trip. But the LumberKings scored the final 19 runs of the ballgame, highlighted by
Marcus Littlewood’s game tying grand slam in the ninth, and RBI’s by Justin Seager and Lonnie Kauppila in the 12 th. The
comeback has been featured on ESPN, Fox Sports, Bleacher Report, Deadspin, MLB.com, and many other national
outlets.
Extra, Extra, Read all about it!...The newest issue of Sports Illustrated hit store shelves this past week, and the
LumberKings’ historic 20-17 win last week in Burlington earned a four-page spread.
MWL Player of the Week….Austin Wilson was named as the MWL Player of the Week (4/28-5/4) after a 9-for-24 (.375)
showing at the plate in seven games. Six of Wilson’s nine hits were for extra-bases, including three doubles, one triple,
and his second and third home runs of 2014. The 2nd round pick (49th overall) in 2013 out of Stanford drove in 11 RBIs
and currently leads the MWL with 24. He also scored three times and drew three walks. On Saturday in Wisconsin, the
right fielder went 2-for-5 with a double and two-run HR. He knocked in a career-high 6 RBIs and helped Clinton storm
back from a 12-4 deficit after five innings to win 16-13.
April Review….It was an up-and-down April for Clinton. Cold, rainy weather caused five rainouts, three of which resulted
in doubleheaders. The L’Kings opened the 2014 season with a four-game set in Cedar Rapids and split those contests.
Clinton returned home where they won three of five, two over Lake County and one over Fort Wayne. Following that
home stand, Clinton hit the road for six games against MWL Eastern Division teams. They were swept by the current
MWL Eastern leading Dayton Dragons in three games, but returned the favor against the Bowling Green Hot Rods,
earning their first 2014 sweep. The L’Kings returned home for six games against Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids and did
not fare well. They went 1-5 and were swept by the Kernels. After consecutive rainouts in Quad Cities, Clinton wrapped
up April with a doubleheader split against the River Bandits on April 30. Marcus Littlewood raked to the tune of a .379
batting average, the highest mark in the MWL through one month.
Playing Beloit at the wrong time….Clinton has run into a Snappers team riding major momentum. Beloit swept Kane
County in a three-game set prior to the current four-game set at Ashford University Field. While their offense has hardly
hit above .200 during their six-game win streak, the Beloit pitching staff has been downright dirty on the mound, picking
up two shutouts over Clinton in two days. Beloit has allowed just six runs over their past six games.
They Returned….Five players who donned a LumberKings uniform at some point in 2013 are back with the team. They
include catcher Marcus Littlewood, infielders Martin Peguero and Zach Shank, and pitchers Blake Holovach and Mark
Bordonaro. Littlewood, Holovach, and Bordonaro spent their entire 2013 campaigns in Clinton. Bordonaro was promoted
to High Desert (Advanced-A) at the end of April.
Midwest League Debut….26 LumberKings have made their Midwest League debut, the most recent being outfielder
Chantz Mack, who homered to tie the game vs. Burlington which eventually led to the LumberKings first walk-off win of
2014.
Mariners Watch….Roennis Elias allowed four runs in seven innings as the Mariners lost for the fourth game in a row.
Seattle took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Michael Saunders in the third inning, but Elias gave up a three-run home run
to Brian Dozier in the fourth. Saunders cut the deficit to one with an eighth inning HR, but Glen Perkins pitched a
scoreless ninth for his second save in as many days, and his 12th of 2014. Seattle aims to salvage the final game of the
series Sunday afternoon in Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 CT.

Today’s Starter: 22-year-old Carlos Misell features
a three pitch arsenal, including a fastball, change-up,
and slider. The righty built off of his successful 2013
professional debut with a dominant performance in
each of his first two starts with the LumberKings, but
ran through a tough four start stretch from 4/17 to 5/6
where he had an ERA of 6.11 over 17.2 innings.
Last Outing: Misell pitched the first two innings of
the game vs. Burlington that was then suspended
due to rain. He had the best beginning to a start he’s
had in nearly a month, as he pitched two scoreless
frames, before the rain came to Clinton, washing
away Misell’s chance of a good outing.
