How to...
Use Window
Treatments
for Energy
Efficiency!
One of the best ways to make
your home energy-efficient is to
prevent heat/air from escaping.
Nearly 5% of the heat/air pumped
through your home each year is lost
through tiny holes and cracks in the walls, especially the ones
between windows and walls.
The good news is that the right window treatments can prevent this
from happening! In fact, by outfitting your home with the right
shades and draperies to act as insulators, you can cut detrimental
energy loss by nearly 50%! So, if you really want to protect your
home and your bank account this year, upgrade your window
treatments!
Here's how...
● Use an inside mount. (Make sure you choose a blind or shade that
fits snugly in your window frame. You'll block more heat/air from
escaping and keep outside air from creeping in.)
● If using an outside mount, add top treatments like thermal
draperies or cotton drapery panels. (These treatments will act as an
additional barrier between your home and the elements.)
$100 off every Manual window

● Keep window treatments raised during the day to pull in natural
heat from the sun in the cold months and keep them closed during
the warm months.
● Lower window treatments at night to trap heat/air in.
● Use Shutters. (Shutters are an excellent energy efficient solution!
They virtually prevent all heat/air from escaping while keeping outside
air out!)
($50 off each add'l)

● Install thick blinds (Look for "blackout" or "energy-efficient". The
thicker the blinds, the better barrier provided at keeping the heat/air
inside.)
● Use blackout curtains. (Blackout curtains are one of the thickest
curtains available to use as an energy-efficient barrier on your
window/s. The thickness of the curtain prevents any outside air from
getting into your home, creating a double barrier to keep your home at
a comfortable temperature.)
Keep the above in mind and you should make the most out of using
window treatments to make your home energy efficient!

Retro-fitting!
Ever thought about motorizing your current blinds, shades or
drapery treatments and how motorization would make life easier?
Imagine...no more getting out of your chair or bed, just push a

traverse your drapery treatments. You can even get your treatments
to operate when you are not home for energy efficiency!

Basics to
Motorization!
Are you ready for enhanced security,
child and pet safety all by the push
of a button? Would you like easy
window treatment accessibility, with
the ability to control them
individually or as a group? How
about ease and convenience, along
with the ability to integrate it into most home automation systems?
Well, these are just some of the reasons people choose motorization
for their window treatment needs!
Read on for answers to the next question...What are the basics to
motorization?
Basics to Motorization
1.) Power Options
Battery and/or Solar Powered Battery
Battery powered window treatments have the
most size limitations, but offer flexibility when
hard-wiring is not an option.
(ex: 72 x 72 Sheer Roman or 36 x 72 Blockout Roman, 52 x 104 Sheer Roller
Shade or 72 x 72 Blockout Roller Shade)
AC Power
AC powered window treatments offer the best
shade alignment with group up and down action
at 110 volts/hard wired and offers the largest size
capabilities (120 x 96 Blockout Roman Shade,
168 x 110 or 94 x 180 Sheerweave Roller Shade)
DC Power
DC motors are low-voltage, can be battery
powered, solar powered or plugged in and
Visit us at:
MotorizedWindowTreatments.net
can go up and down at different speeds.
(Shades can all be the same size and material and
motors still go at different speeds!)
2.) Communication
IR (Infrared)
IR is a spread pattern beam which operates from 0 - 20' away
that does not go through anything (line of sight). Just simply
point and press!
RF (Radio Frequency)
RF operates from anywhere in the room and is omnidirectional (out-of-sight control in different
rooms/around corners and through walls). Is best for
large group control and longer range (0-50') and works
through water, fabric, wood, cement, etc.)
RS 232 or RS 485/Home Automation
RS 232 or RS 485 operates uninterrupted from
anywhere in the house by coding set-up by a
home automation technician.
3.) Control
Remote Control
Remote controls are IR or RF wireless and offer individual
or group control.
Home Automation
Home Automation offers individual and
group control through a coding system
with TaHomA, Crestron, Control4 or
Homeworks.
Wall Switch
Wall Switches are DC or AC wired and offer
individual or group control.
