I
’m proud to report that over the last few weeks, Freemasons Victoria
has donated $232,000 to three great causes. I know there have been
other charitable donations made during the period, but I thought
I would highlight these three. As mentioned previously, $86,000 was
donated to the Think Pink Living Centre to fund a breast care nurse for
12 months. $75,000 was donated to Melbourne Youth Music (MYM)
to assist in providing a range of musical activities/opportunities to the
youth of Melbourne and $71,000 (50 per cent of which was raised by the
Garibaldi Lodge) was presented to Beyond Blue to assist with their efforts
in reducing the impact of depression, anxiety and suicide.
On 13 November, the Field of Remembrance was held commencing
on the lawn of the Dallas Brooks Centre in the presence of dignitaries,
representatives from the Department of Veteran Affairs, Australian Army,
RSL Victoria branch, Shrine of Remembrance, Royal United Services
Institute of Victoria, Royal Australian Air Force, Navy League of Australia,
Vietnam Veterans Association, War Widows and Widowed Mothers
Association, Legacy, Red Cross, Blue Ribbon Foundation and of course
Freemasons and their partners. The morning featured a wreath laying ceremony, followed by the Ceremony
of the Unknown Soldier (in Lodge Room 1) with support from members of the Shrine Guard. It was a
magnificent tribute to those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedom that we do.
The money raised from the sale of the poppies on the lawn enabled donations to be made to the Shrine of
Remembrance and the RSL Welfare Fund of $1,000 each.
Last Sunday, an open ceremony of re-Dedication was held at the renovated Shepparton Masonic Centre
to officially launch this magnificent masonic facility. This Centre was first used in 1902 with additions and
extensions being built in 1941 and 1960. When this Centre was vandalised in late 2012 and again in March
2013, Freemasons Victoria was determined to ensure that it would be appropriately restored to its former
glory. It has now been totally renovated and incorporates two new commercial tenancies at the front with
shared amenities, which will assist in the ongoing financial viability of the facility. Please take note that the
dedication of the Inner East Masonic Centre (4pm, 29th of November) is open to all interested in seeing
not only a special ceremony, but also a first class Masonic facility. Please contact the Grand Secretariat for
booking details.
Before the next issue of Engage, the summer series of Freemasons: the Inside Story will commence on C31
(Digital 44) on Monday 1 December at 8.30pm. The series will run for 13 weeks and will highlight content
from Series 1 and 2. If you live in an area that doesn’t receive the channel, the most recent two episodes are
usually on the C31 website, so please enjoy the show.

presented MYM CEO Dorian Jones and MYM Board Vice President
Raghava Dasika with a $75,000 donation towards its continued tutorial
support and the ongoing engagement of guest conductors.
“It’s incredibly important that students receive continued support in their
pursuit of learning an instrument and contributing towards an orchestra.
Freemasons Victoria is very proud to present this funding to MYM to
ensure that programs can continue to run, and teaching expertise is
accessible”, RWBro. Bruce said.
MYM CEO Dorian Jones who hosted the weekend’s event, said that the
funding would assist MYM to continue to promote the programs it offers
and develop an audience.
“Without funding such as that received today from Freemasons Victoria,
MYM would not have the same standard of excellence and students
would not receive the individual tutorial support that they need”, Dorian
said.
With rapturous applaus from students, their parents and members of
Melbourne Youth Music, the BIG cheque was officially handed over.
Parents took the opportunity to personally thank Freemasons Victoria

S
taff of the Healesville Living and Learning Centre have indicated
that they will be able to complete a partial roof restoration after
receiving a donation of $9496.60 last week from Freemasons
Victoria.
The money was raised and donated by members of Healesville Lodge No.
247 and was presented to the Centre on Wednesday 29 October.
News
Lodge Secretary WBro. John Worlley said that Lodge members raised
money for different causes throughout the year, particularly supporting
community organisations.
“The Healesville Living and learning Centre provides education and other
services for so many people within the community. It really is important
that programs such as this are available. We are glad to raise money for
such a worthy cause”, John said.
The Masonic Society held a trivia night to raise the funds and the
Freemasons Victoria Board of Benevolence matched the proceeds. The
night included a silent auction and games, and was well attended by the
local community.
CEO of the Healesville Living and Learning Centre, Karen Kisala said that
the organisation was completely community supported and that the
donation would funds essential restorations.
“The Centre has never had a donation of this size from a community
group and this amount of money will go a long way. We are so grateful
for the support of the members of Healesville Lodge, Freemasons Victoria
and others who have donated”, Karen said.
The Centre provides adult
education services to the
community and provides a range
of facilities such as internet access
and printing. It is a not-forprofit, community run education
provider and holds a range of
courses throughout the year.

being packed down, more and more items of lost property are being
found. With only a few weeks left till summer holidays, please contact
Freemasons Victoria if you think you may have left something behind.
It’s hard to imagine how someone could try to get home without their car

does leaving to go home without your reading glasses!
Freemasons Victoria has enough lost
property now to start its own op-shop, but

Someone is missing their diamond earrings,
and I’m sure the person who has left their

News
Members were heard to say how
much they enjoyed the evening; it was
different, original and full of energy. The
Kelvin Club had been arranged with
Freemasonry furniture and artefacts
which were very much appreciated by
those who understood the meaning of
each piece within the masonic temple,
and as WBro.Brendan Kyne pointed out,
it was customary in the early days to
hold Lodge meetings in a private and
cosy environment – something that the
Kelvin Club certainly achieved.
The evening will include the

a delight it was to see a young brother so interested and concerned in
preparing himself to play his role at such a high level.
The rest of the team should be commended for their role in the ceremony.

A companion of 60 Years
The Remarkable
Reynoldsons
“You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a
solid foundation if you’re going to have a strong super-structure.”
Gordon B. Hinckley
60 years ago a young Freemason by the name of Eric Nolan determined
that there was more to Freemasonry and that he wanted to discover what
it was and where that path would lead him.
News
He wanted to build upon the strong foundation that the ‘Craft’ had given
him and explore the wonders that only Freemasonry can offer. And so, just
three months after Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Tour of Melbourne, Eric was
exalted into the Lord Kitchener Holy Royal Arch Chapter on 26 May 1954.
Eric’s foundation has proved to be very strong indeed as the First Grand
Principal, Most Eminent Companion Graeme O’Donnell together with
many other Companions joined with Eric to celebrate his 60 years in the
Holy Royal Arch degree.
A rare occasion in Freemasonry
occurred as three generations
were present at Wesley Collegians
Lodge No. 368 on Tuesday 21
October to celebrate the raising of
Bro. Luke Reynoldson by his father
Bro. Andrew Reynoldson and
Grandfather David Reynoldson.
Luke continues a long
standing family tradition as a
fifth generation Freemason,
unfortunately his Great
Grandfather David and Great
Grand Uncle George were unable
to attend.
88 year old Eric was overjoyed to see so many friends and Companions
make the effort to visit his Chapter, the Bayside Royal Arch Chapter No. 26
and partake of this special achievement.
Sadly the night was bittersweet as it was also the night that the Bayside
Royal Arch Chapter voted to return their Charter to Grand Chapter but as
Eric’s example shows us that whilst the dynamics of the Holy Royal Arch
ebbs and flows over time, the super-structure of this wonderful degree
remains strong.

building in the heart of the
town.
Members were also given
the opportunity to watch
the re-enactment of several
trials which took place
during the late 1800s in
the historic court house.
The MUV Group enjoys lunch at the ‘Simply Tomatoes’ cafe
in Boort.
Sightseeing was on the agenda first-up so the group visited Inglewood’s
Spanner Man, who is well known for his enormous structures of metal art
using (you guessed it) spanners!
Members indulged in a little
retail therapy at Inglewood’s
antique shops, and saw some
local tomato and olive oil
production, the making of wool
quilts and eucalyptus oil.

This was followed by a visit to
Melville Caves (rumoured to be
the hideout of the bushranger
‘Captain Melville’) which
provided spectacular scenic
views.
At the final BBQ , members

Three group cars were present,
augmented by the most unique group vehicle which on one occasion
became lodged in tracks at a railway crossing, requiring assistance from

Business Luncheon
Freemasons Victoria invites you and your guest
to a very special CBD business luncheon.
Special Guest Speaker:
Tim Conolan - CEO and founder of TLC for Kids
After fearless entry into the world of entrepreneurship at the young
age of 20, Conolan was asked to attend a cancer support camp as
a motivational speaker. It was there that he met some seriously
ill children who were to change the course of his life. In 1998
Conolan and long-term partner Ana Darras established the
charity TLC for Kids; a not-for-profit organisation that provides
the fastest free support in Australia for all children in hospital and
their families.
With passion and an infectious positivity, Conolan has
spearheaded TLC for kids remarkable growth. Conolan
has been voted Australia’s local hero for 2014 as part of
the Australian of the year awards, and is the only recipient
from Victoria this year.
In addition Conolan has also been voted EY entrepreneur of the
year 2014 - Social Entrepreneur, Southern Region and is currently a
