Course Overview
This two (2) days training program is designed for bankers,
microfinance and other professionals responsible for
maintaining top quality loan portfolios, identifying risk
management opportunities and designing financial
solutions for clients in a new and evolving international
credit environment.
There is widespread agreement particularly amongst
regulators that financial institutions need to rethink credit
policies, procedures, and risks they are taking.

This interactive workshop will provide knowledge and
support to members of credit risk and operational
management team to better understand the developments
in Tanzania with the credit information sharing initiative.
This workshop will cover the concepts behind credit
bureaus, and how businesses can use this data to improve
the quality of lending, both in terms of efficiency and
quality. The workshop will also cover the fundamental
concepts of application processing and utilzation of the
credit bureau reports.
It will also present an excellent networking opportunity for
attendees to share ideas about their own challenges and
best practice.

of prospective clients, both for personal and business
finance, while avoiding clients with weak repayment profiles
and high risk of default.
• How to use credit bureau information to reduce credit
application processing turnaround time and the cost of the
credit appraisal.
• How to use credit bureau information to improvepredictability of internal score card, portfolio risk
assessment and portfolio management (including early
warning indicators and implementation of preventative
credit management strategies) as well as for market
segmentation, client selection and risk-based pricing.

An introduction to the Credit Reference Bureau Services

• What are the changes expected in a market once a credit
bureau is introduced.

Exercise: Automation
The groups will explore the benefits of automation in credit risk management,
seeing the examples at both a Financial Institution at a market level. What are
the drivers of improvement in losses, and efficiency.

Session 2 - Continued
Monitoring of individuals and changes in risk
Exercise: Monitoring
Existing customer change risk, what triggers do you want to see on your
customers as they change over time. This session allows each group to review
and identify the triggers that they will assign.
Session 3
An introduction to Credit Scoring providing a complete
understanding of this tried and tested credit management
practice.

Work out actual scores for individual records, calculating variables and scores
for a total score.

A credit risk assessment of data held on the credit bureau
• Using Credit Reports for risk management

A practical guide to implement a system to cater for the
entire credit granting process.
Exercise: Reading and Understanding Credit Reports
The data in credit reports allows a fundamental change in the way the credit
officers assess the credit risk of individuals. Payment history becomes the key
differentiator. Hands on working together assessing credit reports on screen.

Exercise:
Each portfolio has risk thresholds that must be reflected in the application
process policies that are applied. There are represented in a series of rules, in
this session delegates are asked to prepare policy rules for a retail portfolio.

Anyone who is involved in managing risk associated to the
customer management lifecycle (prospecting, evaluation,
monitoring and debt management) will benefit from this
course.
This course provides background behind the principles of
granting credit and is suitable even for the new personnel.

Trainer Biography
Paul Randall
Business Development Director
Creditinfo International
With over 26 years of experience in credit risk management,
Paul Randall has been working with Creditinfo since April
2007. Following graduation, he worked with 2 retailers on
the financial services side, JD Williams and M&S Financial
Services, prior to moving to the Co-operative Bank. During
the period of his employment, Co-operative Bank was an
innovative provider of banking services and had the risk
management environment to support it. It was one of the
first organisations to deliver an enterprise-wide customer
risk assessment supporting all decision processes. Mr.
Randall then moved to the consultancy side as the head of
scoring and consultancy in Scorex in the UK for 7 years
followed by becoming a member of the Experian Global
Consultancy Team for 7 years. During this period, he led both
direct client consultancy for risk management and Basel II in
addition to best practice documentation. The global support
spanned over 25 countries, such as the US, the UK, South
Africa, South Korea, Ukraine and Turkey. At Creditinfo, Paul
served initially as Managing Director of Creditinfo Decision
before becoming the Director of Business Development and
Chairman of Creditinfo Georgia. He has been active in the
development of many new credit bureaus and supporting
the growth of existing credit bureau.

Ledger Plza – Bahari Beach Hotel. Non-residential course
fees include training facilities, documentation, lunches and

About us
Creditinfo Tanzania is the first licensed and operational
credit reference bureau in Tanzania. We received our license
from the Bank of Tanzania early June 2013. Our core
services to cover each stage of the customer life cycle. Our
services help banks and other credit providers to evaluate
prospective customers, monitor performance of existing
ones and manage the debts that they may have incurred.
We collect data from as many sources as possible, process
and make it available in a useful format to subscribers who
have a rightful reason to use that data. We provide these
services in accordance with the relevant legal framework
provided by the Bank of Tanzania.
