We welcome the return of our Albert St Primary School Families and hope a relaxing and safe holiday was enjoyed by all and special welcome to our new families who have joined us this year. A huge thank you to our families who have volunteered their time to support the school during the holiday break. • Kim Palmer and family who regularly attended to the school grounds during the warm weather for watering plants, cleaning cobwebs from buildings , mowing the grass (including the oval) and repairing the garden benches. He work is greatly appreciated. • Lindsay & Laurie King who have also attended the school regularly and reinstalled climbing equipment on the oval that was previously located at the front of the school. Once soft fall has been spread around the equipment, children will have the opportunity to use it. Lindsay has also removed old computing hardware and appliances from the school. Their work has also greatly assisted the school community. Staff Welcome We also welcome Courtney Heyne to the Junior Team, Matt Suter as our Health and PE specialist and Russell Chapman in the role of chaplain. Uniforms A kind reminder to all parents - please ensure that children are appropriately dressed for school. Uniforms (new and second hand can be purchased from the school at the office). Children must wear a school hat at all times they are out in the yard, in accordance with our Sunsmart Policy. Children without hats will be asked to play undercover; those who continuously are found without a hat will need to remain inside this term. as collecting data on numeracy and literacy knowledge and skills. Assembly Our first whole school assembly will be held on Monday February 3rd at 2:40pm in the Multipurpose room. All families are welcome to attend. Cars and young children in summer Main Points Lost Property There are a number of items left in lost property in 2013. Unnamed items have been cleaned to be sold in our second hand section of the uniform shop. The following named items can be claimed at the office; • Dyson • Matilda King • Angus Guo Please ensure your child’s jumpers and hats are clearly labelled so they can be returned. • Melbourne and greater Victoria will experience extremely high temperatures for the back to school period. • Parents and/or guardians are reminded that on hot days it is important never to leave children alone in a car. • Temperatures inside a parked car during summer can be around 20 to 30 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. Education Supplies Pick Up The standard curriculum program is provided free to all students in Victorian government schools. Free instruction includes the provision of learning and teaching activities and support materials created by the teacher. In accordance with the Department and School Council parents are required to pay for essential education items (supplies). The school purchases these items to ensure consistency across the school and classrooms. The school also purchases shared items such as laminating, photocopying, coloured paper, just to name a few. Specialist art supplies and entry fees into sporting events are also covered by this payment for consistency in usage. • Leaving children in hot cars, even for a moment, can result in serious injury or death. • Young children's smaller body size and underdeveloped nervous system places them at a much greater risk of lifethreatening heatstroke, dehydration and other serious health risks. • If a parent or guardian is travelling with a child, never leave them alone in a parked car, not even for one moment. For more information, see: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/news/archive/Pa ges/carsandchildren.aspx http://vvvvw.kidsafevic.com.au/ A thank you to all parents who organised the pickup and labelling of supplies for the beginning of the school year, this has assisted teachers immensely. For those families who have not yet collected their supplies this can now be done through the office. There are some books and connector pens on back order for the 3/4 grades, please be patient as the supplier will get these to us as soon as he can. Assessment Interviews As you know we commenced the school year with 2 days of testing. These days were approved by School Council as DEECD pupil free for testing purposes. The individual 30 minute session was an important time for teachers to meet and greet their grade as well Answer: Because she never marries the best man. A spot of SPORT NEWS!
