The Na onal Science Founda on (NSF) has awarded UTEP scholarship funding for US Ci zen/
Permanent Resident incoming freshmen students studying Science and MathemaƟcs. These NSF scholarships will be awarded to top students based on unmet need (www.fafsa.ed.gov), high school academic achievements (grade point average, class rank, and test scores) and a record of ac vi es sugges ng that recipients are well‐suited for a career in science. If selected, recipients will be eligible to receive: 
an annual award of up to $10,000 for two years 
funding for travel to a end scien fic mee ngs and conferences 
alloca on of a faculty tutor for the dura on of student’s degree plan 
adop on by a major research team in student’s area of study 
on‐campus residence Once the two years of NSF funds have been exhausted, students will be considered for other highly compe ve Research and Training Fellowships in their area of study, which are reserved for juniors and seniors, for example the NIH‐funded MARC Fellowship. The NSF scholarship is targeted to any incoming freshman from West Texas and Southern New Mexico who will be majoring in science or mathema cs. To apply, students must submit the following to the UTEP Office of Scholarships: 
a UTEP Undergraduate Scholarship Applica on available at www.utep.edu/scholarships (NOTE: if you have already submi ed a scholarship applica on, you only need to submit the essay and le er of recommenda on) 
An essay outlining personal goals and aspira ons and how this scholarship will impact the student’s ability to a ain them 
a le er of recommenda on from a high school science teacher outlining the student’s poten al for a career in science 
